Hi Ben, I'm an avid GPL'er too.

I live in Bromley SE London/Kent borders, and would be happy to race
with you via modem or via vroc.

BTW, Have you tried vroc yet? you need Netscape v4.08 or v4.5 (from
.NET magazine cover disc) and visit the vroc website:

http://gpl.gamestats.com/vroc/

And then read the faq's and download the GPL core.ini file (very small
file) and make the suggested small changes to your DUN connection
(easy if you read the GPL DUN faq) and then you can then race via vroc
easy.

A 28.8 modem is fine for vroc or modem racing provided you are not
hosting the race. Not sure of your pc spec. If its not *ninja* then
try to turn off as many graphics details as possible to allow you to
maintain 36fps (or as close as possible). This is *very* important for
on-line racing or you (and the others you are connecting with) may get
serious game slowdowns or *warping* or clock smashes!!!!

For your info I have:
Celery 300A clocked at 450
128Mb (pc100) ram
Abit BX6 m/b
12Mb Voodoo2 card
56k (v90) Modem

I can maintain 36fps at almost full datail for *most* of the time, but
I do tend to turn off a few details for better on-line racing anyway.
I used to drive the Lotus all the time, but it is very difficult to
drive fast consistently, and I have now switched (about three weeks
ago) to the Eagle, which is much easier to drive, and almost as fast.

I can race some weekday evenings (varies?) and most weekends as I work
Mon to Fri days. I tend to race around 8 to 9pm at night.
I'm not that fast at GPL compared to the really quick guys on the net
(even though I've had it, and the demo's since the day they first came
out?) and I am happy to race with slower drivers, as it gives me a
chance to practice too.

E-mail me if you are interested in a modem race and I will give you my
tel no, if you want to *learn* on a vroc race, we can password protect
the race so that no-one else can join the race. Vroc has a password
protected race screen and you just enter a password in the multuplayer
GPL screen to join a password protected race.

There is also a program available on the net called GPL server locator
which enable GPL races to, we can use this if you like (it may still
have a few bugs though, as I haven't used it lately? whereas vroc is
pretty good and stable). I use vroc, GPL server locator and modem
connections (as well as a two pc LAN at home for LAN based GPL races).
