Mine rattles like a diesel.

Around the centre theres probably <1mm play - not in the shaft but within
the FF mechanism itself.

Just lightly place your fingers on the top of the wheel and shake it side to
side - fast and gentle, now.  Do you get that tiny bit of play?  A knocking
sound?

Go to *** options in control panel - try wooden bridge and chainsaw.
They are NOISY!  Smoth FF effects are fine, it's the rapid side-to-side
stuff that causes problems.  If a game uses road effect type vibrations
(NFS: PU, F12K2 demo), then it's unplayable - gotta switch them off.
Fortunately, 95% of my *** revolves around Papy stuff and their
implementation does not generally cause the rattles.

This thing is gorgeous otherwise (I don't use the pedals - ugh!), but it was
a mail order item going back a couple of months now and getting a
replacement for something that might not even be an issue (and is a frickin
nightmare to explaiin) will be difficult and cost money.

Anyone else know what I'm talking about here?  Is this thing working within
it's designed parameters?  Anyone figured out how to tighten the sucker up?

I talked with one person via usenet who *appeared* to be suffering the same
problem, had it replaced and found the new wheel was just as noisy.  That
shut me up for a while, but I'm curious once again.

What's your experience?

Thanks in advance for your time...

unplayable - gotta switch them off.

Just make a profile and turn down the force feedback overall setting. I have
the NHRA drag racing game and you know it when you go into tire shake. :)

Check that the motor screws havent worked their way loose. It happend to
mine and it sounded as rough as a badgers arse. After the screws were
tightened everything has been fine for months on my wheel.

That is no doubt! I have mine turned down in game. I really like the FF
because you can feel the tire shake. From what the drivers say tire shake in
a Top fuel car can make you think its possed by demons. I remeber a few
drivers being knocked out from it. I'm really impressed with NHRA Main
Event. The FF actualy tells you something and you can actualy feel the
tuning changes during the run. Of course I'm a drag racer myself (just no
were near these levels) so I may just be a little more in tune with it.
Maybe Tom's 6 of 10 theroy is at work. :)

How do I get to said motor screws?  Are you talking about the screws on the
base of the unit?  I opened it up a few days ago but couldn't find anywhere
inside to tighten up...

Yes.

Yes.

I'm going to a LAN party in two week, and there will be three other
Momo's for me to compare. I have to say I almost took mine back to PC
world on Sunday, but it was running like a dream with N2002, and i
managed to to tweak it to how I want it in GPL.

But I'll let you know how it compares with the others in a couple of
weeks.

Cheers

IIRC, there is a another few screws you have to take off, including the 6
bolts on the front of the wheel to get to the motor.

How noisy is your MOMO?

Not only is my Momo noisy, but I think its dying :-(

The gears sound like they are grating now (I've been using the wheel daily
for 6 months). Sometimes, the wheel will jam completely on half right lock,
and I have to shake it around to free it. The wheel is no longer smooth -
again on right lock it always grates and is requires considerable force.
There is something rattling around inside it as well...

I really want to get the wheel fixed. Does anyone know a place (UK) that
repairs MOMOs? I won't even try to get a warranty repair, as I assume
they'll claim its just wear a tear, not a manufacturing defect.

Unfortunately I don't own a phillps head (crosshead) screwdriver, (except a
short one in my drill) so I can't open the wheel up and see for myself what
the problem is.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers,
Tim

Tim

You take it right back to where you got it and demand a replacement! If
they give you any shit let me know...I KNOW my rights, and yours. :)

Phone them first, of course, and tell them what's wrong. They may offer
a replacement as a matter of course.

If it was PC World, then you're in luck. ;)

Tim, don't attempt any repair yourself, let the retailer either offer
you a refund or a replacement. If they offer to send it 'away' to be
repaired, decline the offer and demand a refund or replacement.

We are lucky in the UK, we have really good consumer rights. If you know
your rights and stick to your guns, the retailer will have no option but
to comply. If they don't comply, threaten to take 'em to a small claims
court. It will never get there because they will cave in, knowing full
well they don't have a leg to stand on.

if the retailer doesnt want to fix it (which they didnt for mine, 1 month
old...) ring Logi (0207 309 0126) and tell them the problem. they told me
that if it is less than 12 months since it was bought, the retailer should
sort it out, but as they werent for me, Logi said they would do it. should
take 2-3 weeks they said (i only rang them yesterday, so i havent sent off
my old one yet)
