GP2 Miirors and Tires (tyres)

In GP2 I'm having a serius problem with 2 DEAD spots in my mirrors.
I'm used to Indy2 where I can see opponents beside me. How do you know
if cars are beside you when your racing into a corner or trying to
pass?

Am I using the same tire to race as I am to practice and qualify?
Is there any way to examine your car during a race? I'm usually
not in contention for position after my first pit stop so it doesn't
matter if I spend a little more time in the pits! It may help later.

Thanks

Basically by trying to guess where the car is when you are doing it.
No, it isn't perfect (and I've been nailed many times...it seems like
the computer car is blind to that as well, but it will also continue
to bash into you even though it should know that you are there.

You find out what tires you are using in the garage.  It is the same
tire for both qualifying and racing...and it doesn't change except
between tracks (every time you race at Monza, you will be on compound
B...no matter what [I don't know the ACTUAL compound for Monza...so
take this as an example]).  This reflects the rules that were put in
around '94 (well between '91 and '94).  Goodyear decides which tire
they are going to bring to the track and not the teams (better cost
savings, since you don't need to carry extra tires with different
compounds).

Not so (I think)

In the pits, the top row of tires are qualifiers...you get three.
The second row (r1...r4) are race tires and you get 4.

You can run in a race tyre set during practice, but you'll always
get the least lapped set during a race pitstop.

The way I understand things is that you are free to use any of the
seven sets in practice or qualifying.  In the race you will sart on
set r1 (bottom left in choose tyre menu), and put on set r2 at your
first stop.  Although I haven`t found a way of verifying this it would
make sense because you have four sets of "r" tyres and can set a
maximum of three pre-planned stops from the set up screen.  I would
guess if you make more than three stops due to damage etc then you
just keep set r4 on.
