NHRA - THERE IS NO LOAD TIME / GRAPHICS - PROBLEM!!!

by Don Wilsh » Sun, 30 Aug 1998 04:00:00

Drivers:

When I first got the NHRA I had a slow load and graphic rate.  It was
my fault as I had old voodoo drivers installed.  So I did what I advise
you all to do.  I went to the www.3dfx.com site
at:

http://www.racesimcentral.net/

When you get there you will see DRIVERS!!!!

Now you go to the line that says  VOODOO GRAPHICS DRIVERS!!

Just download and install these drivers.  Before I loaded the current
drivers I was getting load times in the minutes and frame rates were
very poor.  After I loaded these drivers I can load a game now in
15 to 20 seconds, The game runs at least 50 FPS and its great..

And I only have a P-200, 32MB of ram and a VOODOO 1 4MB
Card.  When I see you all with machines bigger and faster than mine
i just wonder and hope this helps you..

NHRA - THERE IS NO LOAD TIME / GRAPHICS - PROBLEM!!!

Initial Load times are still pretty slow but the graphics are 150% better!
Now I can concentrate on improving car performance ! I'm having to use the
buttons on my TM GP1 as gas and brake, but I'm assuming tantrum will have a
patch out for the controller problem.

Can Don and the other gurus please explain the difference between  the
drivers I downloaded from www.3dfx.com  (Version 3.0 including Glide 2.46,
Glide 3.00, Direct 3d and Direct x dated 8/3/98 ) and the driver ( version
1.1 file is called M3d.exe ) from the Diamond Monster 3D page which is dated
3/23/98????

NHRA - THERE IS NO LOAD TIME / GRAPHICS - PROBLEM!!!

I am supposed to be downloading the drivers for MY specific card (a
Pure3D for which I already have the current drivers or all y'all talking
about the Reference drivers at the bottom?

I bet you that the reason I loved this sim from the beginning is because
I never had those "load problems" and "graphic glitches" that everybody was
complaining about (my load times are NEVER more than 6 seconds...REALLY)

Current drivers will do that for ya!

    Well, enjoy!  I am!

NHRA - THERE IS NO LOAD TIME / GRAPHICS - PROBLEM!!!

by Pete Haw » Mon, 31 Aug 1998 04:00:00

I had to install DirectX 5.2 (off of my new Motocross Madness CD), since
NHRA already thought DX5 was good enough.  After DX5.2 was installed, it did
help quite a bit.  Now instead of waiting around 45 seconds to load up, it's
about 18 which is much more tolerable.  It is a lot of fun.  However, I
don't like the fact that in the replay mode, there are no frame advace keys,
or stuff like that.  When the race ends the cars zip back to the start.  In
this aspect Burnout is much better.  Plus the TV cameras aren't automatic.
You must manually select each one as the cars scream down the track.
Burnout does this all for you (much better/easier).  Also the wheel spin
isn't right.  Watch a car from TV view, and it doesn't roll correctly at
all.  I hope this get's fixed in a patch (among these other things).

These are my gripes, other than that it's great!  Very fun with
excellent sound.  Will there ever be more cars or a car editor (like a
paintkit?)

Thanks
