Tailbraking - GPL

Ok, Sorry for bring this up again btu can someone fill me in?

From what I can gaher this is accelerating and braking, but all this does is
make fronts lock up and I got into the crowd for a spin.

Am I doing something wrong or have I got the wrong idea of tailbraking?

Seems you got somehing wrong there. Trailbraking is carrying a part of the
braking into the corner, i.e after braking for the corner in a straight line
you ease off the brake while turning in (but not fully release it) and ease
off more and more until you reach the apex and can apply throttle again.
Doing this you can probably brake a little bit later for the corner, but
more important you keep weight on the front tires while turning in, which
prevents the car from understeering away from the apex.
But it's quite hard to perform trailbraking right. When you turn in too much
or stay on the brake too much (or both), the car can very easily spin out.
To prevent this you can feed in some throttle (which kind of reduces the
rear braking force), but this is not really necessary to trailbrake - it
only helps.
For further information, check out:
http://website.lineone.net/~richardn/  (and when you're there get Ricardo's
fine Lotus setups) and
http://simracing.com/alison/gpl/  (same as above - get Alison's Ferrari
setups)

BTW: Don't think, I'm an expert! I only know, how it should work
theoretically, but I'm still struggling with the practical part (it's not
that easy) :-(

Trailbraking is braking up to, and into, the apex of the corner. While not
essential on all corners, it doesn't require throttle to make it work. Think
smooth, and careful, but fast. This is why the likes of Alain Prost used
trial braking, it gave an advantage if you could be accurate enough to do
it, without overstressing the car or tyres. Keep of the throttle, and brake
later, while turning. Your setup may need changing to achieve this however.
