since Mansell left the scene) so I'm not aware how teams generally
approach pit strategy - particularly on ovals. Given the traffic
density and yellow flags on ovals do teams just fill up the tanks
and go for as long as possible or is there a bit more thought to it.
What prompted this question was that I had two races at Loundon. The
first I went for the crude approach - filled up the tanks and stayed out
as long as possible. I had to come in twice.
With this approach I actually won the race by
about 8 seconds (very exciting stuff).
The other night I thought I'd put some thought into it. I went for a three
stop strategy. Having lighter fuel loads gave a distinct speed advantage
but becuase of yellow flags I was never able to pull away far enough
for it to work. I eventually came off on lap 151 in 7th place.
I suppose the obvious follow-on question is what about road races?
cheers
Alan
