SCREAMER 2 : What's the graphics performance like?

Screamer 2 runs great. There are 4 graphics modes on offer :

256 colour high res
- My favourite. Great definition and frame rate on my P133.

256 colour low res
- Better than GP2 low res for playability. Should be useful for those with
P75s.

 64k colour low res
- Really blocky. The 64k colours look so similar to the 256 that you really
have to look hard to see the difference. I can't see the point.

64k colour high res
- Really needs a kickin' machine to avoid the framerate dropping. Still
playable but less frames/sec than 256 colours on my P133/Millenium/32MB.

Screamer 2 is excellent. The computer opponents take some beating, the car
handling is cool - like arcade Sega Rally , and there are even options to
change the car setups for those of you who like more of a sim-like
experience. Like Screamer 1 the keys seem to be the best control method
(better than analogue joy or T1 wheel).

Buy it !!

That just depends on what you call "great". I define a great frame
rate as *25 frames/sec*. And unfortunately I don't get 25 fps on my
P200/32MB/Millenium in hi-res. Most tracks are well playable, but for
California (lots of buildings and other scenery) you'll have to step
back to low resolution.
Most of the time I play in lo-res to get the desired 25 fps. Sometimes
I switch to hi-res but then I have to be satisfied with 18 or 20 fps
(on the fast tracks).

I don't agree. Look for example at the sky and the road in England.
The difference is huge.

About 15 fps on my P200. I don't call this playable, maybe other guys
do.

You probably mean: the keys are the best control method TO OBTAIN THE
FASTEST TIME. However the best control method TO HAVE REALLY FUN is
undoubtedly a wheel and pedals like my T2. I would'nt play it
otherwise...

That's right.

I've got a Screamer 2 page at the URL in my signature. I've had quite
a lot of mail about the gfx performance and it seems that to run it in
hi-res hi-color you definitely need something in excess of a P166. As
far as low res is concerned, however, there is not a noticeable speed
difference between 256 and 65k colours, at least on my system (Cyrix
P150+, Mystique, 16mb). Although hi-res is playable on this system and
not particularly jerky I prefer the low res modes for the improved
response. The lo-color schemes are very well designed as well as there
is very little difference noticeable (especially when you are power
sliding round a corner at 120mph+!
Any further questions please e-mail me or check out the site
BTW, any idea when the game is out in the USA? I just want to gear up
for the deluge of hits my page is going to get! :-)

We get a few UK copies here in Canada--I got mine a couple of days ago.  I
would echo Nick's comments completely (I have a P120, Matrox Mystique 4MB,
running the game under Win95).

Hi!

First of all, in low-res 256 or 64k colours, I can't tell the difference,
but it plays very smoothly on a P5-166. In high-res in both modes, it's a
little too choppy for my liking.

Hope that helps!

I have a P5-166 with a Matrox Mystique and i would tend to agree with
both your comments....good game all the same though.......have tried a
P5-200 and not much better in hi-res.........
