Everyone knows of Alison Hine and her stature in the GPL community.  I'm
hearing rumours now that her health is deteriorating, as well as her
financial situation.  This really bothers me.  Is there anyone in touch with
her that has more information?

Yes that would be good to know.

Along the same lines, anyone know how Richard Burns is getting on?

Andi.

To "get email to me"?  Are you Alison?

If you know how she is doing, a few words here would be nice...we are all
sincerely concerned and interested.

LOL No I am not her. I wrote her a few months ago at that email about her
thoughts on the T/A mod and she wrote me back.

I'm in regular contact w. Alison and am pleased to report that her health
has vastly improved.  I saw her at the Glen this summer and she looked
better than she has in ages.  She's been racing her Factory Five Cobra on
and off, is instructing at driving schools, and has sold one house in New
Hampshire and is planning to buy or build another closer to her brother,
AFAIK.  Thankfully, she seems to have lost interest in slot-car racing, but
is not yet entirely rekindled her interest in sim racing.  To be sure, she
has not fully recovered her health, but it doing much, much better, thank
you.

Thanks Steve,
Good to hear she is busy! Maybe the next "GPL" will bring her back
into the fold.

Thanks very much, perhaps I over-reacted.  But she posted today on a
vroc-f2 mailing list about selling her house and many of her possessions,
*and* having new health problems.  It made me grit my teeth to read that.

What sort of medical problems is she having if you don't mind me asking,
and why would getting away from slot car racing be a good thing Steve, that
sounds rather strange?

Just curious...

She's been suffering from a long-term illness the nature of which I don't
think I should be broadcasting all over the Net.

Slot-car racing, per se, is fine...but not when it detracts from the time
one of the greatest all-time sim-racing personalities spends with our
beloved community.

Nosy parker.

She did publicly comment on her illness in a published interview some time
ago at Race Sim Central. So as to keep in step with Steve, I'll leave it to
you to find.
Far be it from me to engage in gossip.

This is great news.  She was thanked in the credits of NT2004.  Had I known
that I wouldn't have waited until it was in the $10 bin to buy it.  For
offline racing, it is better than NR2003 IMO.

Yes, Alison was largely responsible for the terrific playability of the GPL
multiplayer code.

Sorry to have come across as a "nosy parker", I certainly meant no ill
will...

Hell, everyone knows about her contributions to GPL, and in fact if it
weren't for her car setups I would have never spent the hours I had over the
YEARS having fun with that sim!!!

I simply hadn't heard anything about her condition until now, and was
curious, especially when you made a comment about slot-car racing, it almost
sounded as if that had some sort of contributing role? Strange as that might
sound....

Here's wishing her all the best, and a speedy return to the racing sim
community!
