Vroc ?

by mcewen » Thu, 05 Jan 2006 00:25:19

Hey Bart,

Speaking of VROC, half the guys who use my GPL server want to use IGOR
to launch it and the other half want to stay with VROC.

Can the 2 co-exist on the same race server?
Do admins have to check 2 race lists to see if a session is running?
What happens if somebody launches with VROC while an IGOR-launched
session is running (or vice versa)?

I played with IGOR when F65 was launched and I remember the anti cheat
code was a little "over agressive" in detecting cheating that wasn't
really there.  Plus I think there were issues if you wanted to use
custom grids and it wasn't as useful in enforcing the bandwidth
settings as VROC was.   Has this situation changed?

Cheers,

Art

Is this what you mean?
http://www.rbr-online.net/

I know the IPaddress for racelist servers has changed even for gamers and
in the gpl app that we use to launch multiplayer sessions into hosted
servers (winvrock, VROC, and {damn the app name escapes me, comes with the 2
mods for GPL) Anyway the chatroom you get into when you launch Winvroc
(again for GPL) has the TOPIC of the channel listed as Change IP address
line in vroc.ini to something...  Unfortunately I cannot do anything more
info for you, Im at work ATM.  try that link above see if it helps.

Well, I haven't been too lucky with running Igor and after a while I decided
to stay with WinVroc, so I can't really tell. I think it can co-exist with
WinVroc on the same server, but not running the same GPL instance (you can
simply copy GPL directories to create more instances). Perhaps you can get an
Igor hosted race listed as external in WinVroc, but only if Igor does not use
bcast_listserv in core.ini. And even then external races will miss the
enforcement of bandwidth settings.

I am not aware of recent updates to Igor, perhaps someone else can tell.

I guess you can better ask on RSC... I use Vroc only for GPL.

Igor is for joining Multiplayer when you want to race any of the GPL mods
(least that is my assumption).

Winvroc is for joining GPL 67 (default cars not 65 or 69 mods) again this is
AFAIK as that is the only way I have been able to get into races using the
GPL67 cars & non mods.  BTW, I dunno why this is, but if you launch winvroc,
there is a VROC.ini that need a line updated to see the raclists.  there is
similiar edit for Igor, if i recall correctly.

Nowthen, if you are able to connect to a chatroom with an app, like mIRC or
even trillian, you need to find the server called ShadowWorld, then connect
to #GPL.  there you will join the channel, and see the IP you need for
racelists for vrock or Igor.

This below is from the bottom of this page.  Book mark this page, you cannot
beat this guide with a Carbo fiber stick dudes...
http://adc.speedgeezers.com/gplhtml/GPLInstallAnd65Mod
there is one for 69 mods, damn I didnt bookmark it I guess.
For online racing make sure that you check the igor.ini file:
It's located here: c:\program files\GPLSecrets\iGOR

These line must be in it: (modify existing line BTW is what I had to do)

[ RaceListServers ]
IP = gplrank.info

Hope that helps a little bit.

Now then when you get IGOR to connect to the raclist & chatroom, the Message
or TOPIC setting in chat is set to tell all people that you need to edit
winvroc.ini to point to an ip adress listed in that chatroom {of course I
talking about #gpl} to which I believe the IP is fairly new).

Ok the topic (I fnally got connected to the chatroom from work, what a
beeEEEEEEch)

and the TOPIC of the chatroom says this <quote>
GrandPrix Legends - VROC: edit vroc.ini to have Address = 213.84.59.34 -
IGOR: edit igor.ini to have IP=gplrank.info <end of me quoteing>

hope this info is helpful.

We use winvroc to join F65 & 69 races all the time, it just doesn't do
anything to enforce an anti-cheat code.  Of course it also doesn't
bogusly tell you you're cheating when you're not either...

Oh,
again all I posted was AFAIK.  (as far as I know {or understand})
Hope that helps.
