GP2 steering improvement

I'm usually driving GP2 using my home-built wheel/pedal system,
but yesterday I tried using the keyboard, and came up with a
possible patch improvement.
Because the steering is digital (full left/right or straight ahead)
some top speed is lost when trying to make small adjustments. My idea
is that the steering could be handled by FOUR buttons. Imagine that
instead of just using "," for left and "." for right, we could use
"M" for full left, "," for a little left, "." for a little right and
"-" for a full right turn.
The same thing could be done with the throttle, for instance "Q" for full
throttle and "A" for throttle during turns at low speed to avoid
spinning.
What's your opinion, would that be too difficult or is there some sense
in this?

ZX Spectrum F1 game from early eighties, Chequered Flag had this kind of
steering method and it worked quite well once you got used to it. But of
course any die-hard F1 fan uses wheel & pedals (if they can afford them)

Also another Formula 1 game by MasterTronic used the entire top row of keys
(e.g. 5 and 6 being min left and min right and 1 and 0 being full left and
full right respectively) and suggested you used a sellotape tin to simulate
a steering wheel!

 I kid you not !

[snip]

You read my mind, didn't you! :)
I don't care too much for keyboard steering, but since I still drive
with "digital" accelerator, I'd just *love* to have a "half-way-down"
button for starting and corners. Maybe with the option to set the
value to a percentage of full throttle.
Won't happen, though, unless Geoff Crammond himself incorporates such
a feature in "The Update" (tm).
