To play racing games with my Interact V4FF Racing Wheel am I best buying a
dedicated game card and if so which one?

I have problems with the force feedback in Nascar Revolution and the demo of
International Rally Championship. I can play IRC fine, even up to the
maximum resolutions but as soon as I switch FF on (at any res) the frame
rate drops and becomes very jerky. In Nascar I get reported connection
problems with my wheel, sometimes it will work for about 5 seconds then
stop. All my other games such as NFS3, Midtown Madness, GPL and Superbike
work fine.

I have tried countless drivers and patches and the only thing I can think of
is that the gameport on the on board soundcard is causing a conflict
somewhere (none is reported in the device manager). A PCI64D (ES1373 chip)
is the soundcard fitted to the motherboard and this also contains the game
port.

I think if I get a gameport card then it should resolve any conflicts and I
can then play all the games fine. I have seen a Thrustmaster card at 19.99
that has two ports on it and fits into one of the slots on my motherboard
and wondered if this would do the job or would I be better with a different
card.

My system is a Gateway PII 450, 128meg ram, 2x V2's, Riva TNT, 13Gig HD,
Win98.

I use the Thrustmaster ACM game card and have for some time now with
no problems. Just remember to disable the joystick port on your sound
card so it doesnt conflict with the dedicated game card.

If you are referring to a creative pci 128 sound acrd you should replace it,
known incompatibilty with a varieyt of things. Pop in a sb live value for under
$90 and not only will you get a pretty good gameport but killer sound.

Thanks for the suggestions. I bought and tried the Thrustmaster ACM card but
couldn't get it to work. I then bought the SoundBlaster Live and both games
seem to run fine.

Thanks

You have to have a soundcard port with MIDI capabilities (SB compatible) for
function of the V4 FF Wheel.  It uses DirectInput which is right now pumped
thought the MIDI channels of the gameport.  A dedicated gamecard will not
provide the necessary interface.
