Yea, I think I'm doing okay with an FCS right now. My T2 is being
repaired. When I get it back I'll post about the differences.

Have to agree that using a joystick seems to be pretty hard because of
the brakes. Here is what Im doing to try and alliviate that (not
completly). Im using my WCS2 as the throttle and brake. I also have
the braking help as a button on the throttle as sometimes the
autobrakes seem a little cautitous. Dont laugh, I admit I suck at this
sim right now. Anyway so far its working well though I have
autobraking on most of the time. But will turn it off in slower
corners and esses.

I set the WCS2 to game 0 30. I then calibrate it in GP2 and usually
will fudge a little to try and get the center closer to the top of the
travel.

Well...I am using the FCS, and let me tell you, even though it is playable
(P133, 40MB ram, Stealth 64 2MB), I don't think I'll ever come close to the
fastest times posted here.  For instance, my best time at Monza is a paltry
1m33.xxx.  That just sucks!  I use the horizontal axis as steering, and the
vertical as accelerator...but when I calibrated, I fooled the game into
thinking that the halfway point (relaxed) was the most foward.  So, when I'm
going straight, I just let go, and full throttle is applied.  However, using
digital brakes (keyboard) just plain bites.  You're either ON or OFF...nothing
in between.  That makes for real slow corner speeds.  So, until I get analog
brakes (T2, etc), I fear my slow times with an FCS are here to stay.

I have been using the joystick for acceleration and braking, but the
keyboard for steering and gear changes.  I am too uncoordinated to
do both with the one joystick - going from flat chat acceleration to
hard braking you often move the joystick a fraction sideways which is
not a good thing under hard braking.

The only problem with this is that you have the steering assistance
enabled.

Anyway - I am looking forwards to my HyperStimulator!!!  Now that's a
real joystick.

Bye - Mark

I use the joystick for accelerating and key steering but what I have
done with the joystick is put it on the ground and use it with my
foot. This is great I have dropped a couple of seconds or more on some
tracks. The only problem is that you have to use it as either an
accelerator or break not both at the same time. You will also have to
stick it to the floor somehow to stop it from tipping.

I have analog brakes on my joystick.....use the Y axis for accelaration
and braking.....works a treat with F1GP, ICR1, Nascar, ICR2 and now GP2.
Change up and down gears with the fire buttons. You've got controlled
acceleration and brakes - can slip the clutch (in GP's) to get the revs
up or to catch slides, etc.

OK, you can't "heel-toe" or "left-foot brake" - but I don't believe the
sims support this either (correct me please if I'm wrong) - what you
loose out to the wheel/pedal users in control is the wider range of
sensitivities in the steering arc, etc. And "feel" of course.

I'm no great driver - but with a joystick you can have good control and
perfectly respectable times with such a setup.

Cheers!
