N4 paintshop questions

by Ms.Goodwren » Fri, 02 Mar 2001 00:25:38

I've been trying to design a car in the N4 paintshop, but have run into a few problems... the manual
isn't very useful, either.  I don't have Paintshop Pro, either, so I'm kinda stuck using the game
utility.

What does the magic wand do?
How do I flip or turn decals & text so they don't appear backward on one side of the car?
Is there a straight line tool?

It was my understanding that the paintshop in N4 would be much better than N3... hope it's just me
not knowing what I'm doing ;-)

The game itself absolutely ROCKS, and runs fine on my PIII 650 w/ Voodoo3 & 64 megs of RAM, I was
delighted to find.  Installation was also a breeze (N3 took an hour and a half of tweaking to get it
to work).

thanks,

go to www.jasc.com and download an evaluable version of Paint shop pro
7.0(30 days free), very nice graphic program and it's perfect to paint any
n4's car.
=)

Hey, I know you, you hang around with that bunch from lake r.a.s.n., the
Paint Shop Pro is a good tip, and you can find very useful info and files at
http://home.ptd.net/~delbert3/ it was here that I finally found the answer
to a problem I was having with PSP, the first time you try to save your
newly painted baby, you must remember to save the file as an Uncompressed 24
bit .tga image, by going File/Save As/and in the save file dialog box click
options, and uncheck the box for image compression, and you will then be
able to import your baby back into N4 and avoid the dreaded "invalid file
type" error message.
I'm having a lot of fun painting cars now, and with the ability to use
PSP and to import decals and other graphic elements to your paintjobs, and
the added ease of their new template system, making great looking cars has
never been better.
I also think you should get more of those rasn folks out to the online
racetrack, I think a few of them have a need to work out some aggressive
tendencies, if you know what I mean, and bangin' fenders is good for
that......just keep 'em away from mine.
    Happy painting, Ed

The magic wand selects areas of similar color (adjust the tolerance slider
to set how selective it is).  Any tool with a little triangle in the lower
right corner has multiple modes, and if you click and hold one of these
tools it will expand to display the alternate modes.  If you expand the
vertical flip tool it will show the other transform options (horizontal flip
as well as rotate 90 degrees clockwise and counterclockwise).  Click and
hold the pencil tool to expand it to show the line tool.

Interesting as hell!  I wish I knew about this earlier as I could have
made a better looking geometric paint schema instead if eye balling it.
Shoot, I even made 4 copies of a sticker each rotated 90*.  Now I know I can
get rid of at least three :-)

Any case, ANY and ALL information found that's not listed in the N4 book
would be very much appreciated from anyone and everyone!

Amen to that  :-)

Thanks Eric -- I knew there had to be a way to rotate decals, but damned if I could figure it out.

I have a lousy 56k modem on antiquated rural phone lines, but I still might give online racing a
whirl... I played Quake II and Half-Life online all the time, but I figure racing will be a lot more
difficult  :-(

Thanks for the info  :-)

N4 paintshop questions

Clicking on the manufacturer's Logo on the botom right hand corner of
the paintshop we can place the contour lines and the extra graphics on to
the car.  YThis looks great and is at the very least a thousand times better
system then the old NASCAR Racing Paintshops.  However, Since I'm not racing
for Chevy, Ford, Pontiac, or Dodge, I don't want their logo on my car.  The
body shape, contours, is all I'm after.  So, with out editing the Chevy
bow-ties piece by piece and taking hours to get the right color shades per
piece, and ect... in the paintshop... has anyone found the templates files
in N4 so that I could just erase the manufacturer emblems?

I've had some luck with the new paintshop.  The one key that helped me
figure it out was the tool tips and also the fact that alot of the buttons
have a small black arrow in the corner and if you click on it it will show
more posibilities (like rotating instead of flipping, and fading and lines
and such).

Hope this helps,
Rick Miller
