BEST UPGRADE FOR N2

Do yourself a favor and dump the Diamond Edge 3D, it's a poor card with no
support.  For the money it's hard to beat a Rendition 3D accelerator (under
$200).  Of course a faster processor would help as well, but the cost is
significantly higher considering the performane gain it will give you.  One
of these new video cards is the best bang for the buck upgrade I've seen
for a PC.

I'd like better performance on N2.  Would I do better to upgrade my
cpu(P-100) to a P-200 or get a rendition based video card like the screamin
3-d.  I already own the diamond edge 3-d.   Thanks for the help

Not really, but they are excellent for games using VESA resolutions.

Username,

I have a P-100 and the game was so choppy I was about
to hang it up, even though I love this game.  Someone
on this NG recommended a rendition card.  I bought a
Screamin' 3D and the game is great now.  After I figured
out how to disable my previous video thingie I could run
faster with all graphics on (including track/grass) then
I could with nearly all graphics off on the old video
system.  The only thing that seems to slow it a little
are the constant update status screens (F2 + <ENTER> and F4).
No big deal since I don't need to see these constantly.

I am running the renddma batch file to play since without
it nasrend doesn't improve my performance enough to warrant
spending $200 on the Screamin' 3D.  So, if your system
supports dma a rendition card would probably do wonders
for you, providing your performance currently stinks.

I don't know what upgrading to a P-200 would do for you.
I'm sure some of the knowledgeable people on this NG will
let you know though.

If all you are interested in is increasing N2, a Rendition video card is
the most cost affective.  However, upgrading your CPU should affect
everything.  Though it will certainly cost more (may also involve a
motherboard upgrade).  I have a P5-166 and I could not run N2 with all
graphics on & at full frame rate without the aid of the Rendition card.
A P5-200 will only give about 5-7% performance boost over the 166.

I don't know, is it possible to run 30 fps with full detail in hi-res on
a P5-200 without a Rendition card?
