> The two best films--

> 1. "Grand Prix"--James Garner, Eve Marie Saint, Yves Montand
> 2. "Le Mans"- Steve McQueen

Another one worth watching is an oldie titled "Indianapolis Speedway" with Clark
Gable.  On the documentary said, there's a film entitled "The Quick and the
Dead" about GP racing in the 70s that's particularly good.

Best Race Movie??

Hi All!
GP2 fan here.  An interesting racing movie was "The Racing Scene"  a
Documentary about James Garners 1971 or was that 1972 racing efforts at the
Baja 1000, Daytona  24 hours, 12 Hours of SeeBring and a late entry into the
Formula A car series.  I found it interesting to see the "Davey" Hobbs [as
James Garner calls him] and Sam Posey in their glory days of racing!  The
best part is that it is in rotation in SpeedVision's "Lost Drive In".   No
it is not as exciting as Le Mans or some of the other movies, but I enjoy
it!  It is definitely worth watching.  I find it especially interesting when
it runs before a SpeedVision live coverage of F1 on the same weekend!

The Speed Merchants - great to watch with the book.
Le Mans

I've also heard that "Weekend of a Champion" (or something like that) by Roman
Polanski about JYS is very good but I've never been able to lay my hands on a
copy.

Days of Thunder was one of the reasons that made be boycott Tom Cruise
movies for a loooonnnngggg time ;)

Movie sucked.  Star Wars was closer to reality than DOT. ;)

>> Days of Thunder kicked ass, IMHO. And still does. Nice acting good

You're right there, LeMans is definitely the BEST racing film.
Although, if you ignore  the corny story line, Grand Prix with Jim
Garner has some great racing footage and if you like old-time Indy Car
racing, The Big Wheel with Mickey Rooney is not bad either...

My vote goes to the 1975 Norwegian classic "Fl?klypa Grand Prix", hands
down! I also kind of liked Paul Newman's 1969 movie "Winning".

Lets not forget 'Winning' with Paul Newman, nor 'The Racers' with Kirk
Douglas.

Another couple of movies to try and find are

six pack with Kenny Rogers...nice little movie about stock car racing u.s.a
style...not the greatest movie. But he starts out on the short tracks of
america driving a latemodel and ends up driving winston cup.

Another movie for pure laughs is Death Race 2000 good stuff, points for running
people down.

Movie to avoid Stroker Ace...ewwwwwwwwwwwww

thank you.

Thank you, don.  I would have missed it.

(As I've said/posted before, too bad McQueen went so
overboard trying to attain realism that the studio yanked
control over the movie from him.  But still a treat.)

And by the way, _Grand_Prix_ is, IM(and many others')HO, the
best racing movie of all time.  The opening sequence, as
someone else already mentioned, is exquisite.  Yes, a lot of
cliches and soap operatic lulls, but still the best, by far.

Really.  I always love movies where the driver announces on
the radio that he's "gonna put this sucker into the wall."
Jeez!  Movies where they spend more time going sideways than
forward.

Two points in favor of DoT:  (1) Nicole Kiddman, and (2)
it's better than _Steel_Chariots_ (but how could it not
be?).
