N4 online problems! WTF?!

by David Gar » Fri, 16 Mar 2001 05:45:45

Guys,

Even though Papy is well known for their talent in the online player market,
I still have not bought one version of Nascar 1, 2, 3, or 4
that wasnt some kinda major ***ing ordeal to get working properly online
with Multi-player!!

With N4, the politics have made it even more complicated to what otherwise
should be a rather easy process!

Question, Why do I have to "register" just to play in a "free" online
arena?!
Question, how come I have to type in a password and login name to play
online?!

What happened to just placing spam ads on the server from ends to meet
development costs?!
What exactly did the wopping fifty bucks get me when I bought this sim?!!

Sierra that doesnt not end without timing out and "closing channel"
I simply cannot hook up to ANY server!!

I have NO firewall
I have selected the correct IP to connect with in the Sierra login pop-up.
I have "select different connection(last check box)" in my configuration
settings and IP/TCP
I can race one on one multiplayer games, host and join just not on the

So what gives?

is: Timed out! Closing channel"!!

Ive got a legal version of the sim, Im signed up and can access the servers
and see people chatting, ping rates, server names etc,
It simply closes the channel when trying to join a hosted race. Ive tried
joining in "Setup", "practice" mode etc.

I've patched the games EXE with patch 1001, but when I do that, I cant
access the Sierra servers at all because it gives me a error window that
tells me I must have a different version of the game?!! No shit!! The
freagin EXE has been replaced!!

WTF is the patch good for anyway?!! You cant play online with it!!
I placed the original EXE back in.

You know, Im not a complete idiot when it comes to computer, and I can only
wonder what that newbie chump that just got a new Gightz computer with kick
ass Gforce and N4 is going through trying to connect online!! I mean it's
seems you almost have to be a computer scientist
to figure out how to play nascar online!!!

Can I get some help?! Ive heard the same problems from different sources,
but no wise guy had pinned it.

Why can't I just buy a game, click here, click there,  and play online?!! I
mean its the year 2001 for ***ing Christ's sake!! How will we ever have
flying cars when we can't even easily communicate on a global network?!!

Why do I have to access different, third party websites for "how tos",
"patches", updates, fixes, or "corrections" or other support that should
have been addressed or tested by the manufacture that sold me the product!!

Did I pay 50 bucks to "beta" test?!!!!

The *** I did!!!

Take it back. You sound as if you do not possess the brain power or patience
to race offline, let alone online.

Do us all a favor and take it back!

First the registration procedure is very similar to that of N3.  Hey if
Sierra wants to
make a buck or two off my name, more power to them.   The matching services
they
provide are well worth the cost.
2nd,  there was a quick patch released for those having trouble connecting
when
they have more than one internet device...i.e. cable or dsl users...try that
..should
be available at papy.com

Because it is their matching servers? I personally like the fact I have to
register to play online through the service.

Same as above

Spam - yuk!!! It's not like were paying a monthly fee here.

Imho, a pretty awesome Nascar simulator.

Ok, obviously there is a problem here. Are you certain your not trying to
join races that have already progressed to qualifying and beyond?

Have you tried direct connecting to an ip address rather than going through
Sierra?

You have cable modem by chance? If so, in mulitplayer setup try setting it
to find your ip address in another way.

Many, many folks are connecting with no problems. Just got to identify what
yours is .

Hmm, sometimes gotta be patient. I am sure many here can offer you some
assistance.

Yikes, easy there, rough language with the good Lord's name. Patience man,
folks will help.

Keep in mind, Sierra does have a money back guarentee. Or, let folks try to
help you overcome these issues.

man, and I had a good buzz going too, shit!

Man you guys are right! You see how much I love this SIM? I woulda paid a
hundred bucks for it and I'd pay to race online. However, I can't race
online because of some technical problem so I try every angle of attack upon
Papy. That just wasnt right!...sorry guys,..just goes to show how much I
love Nascar online!

...sorry,

does anybody think heat sucks?

I'll take a shot at this.  Aren't stats kept on people who race?  Laps run,
laps per incident, finished, etc.?  You have to have a driver to associate all
those stats with.  As far as your difficulty connecting, I can't help you.  I
don't have the game yet.

I suspect so that they know you BOUGHT the game????

How would you like to log into a race and find that everyone hated your guts
because some lamer used your ID in a race and pissed everyone off by trashing
the event???

The other password of course is so that groups can host events with "qualified
drivers."
