Did anybody catch the review in this months issue? It states that you
can get a reasonable framerate in SuperVGA with details maxed on a
P5-100!!!  This is such crap. I hope no one is misled into buying this
game and thinking they will get great graphics on such a system. From
what I have heard and seen there isnt a Pentium or Pro that can run
run Monaco with all details smoothly. My p5-166 does well in SVGA but
only after I turn off sky , track , and mirror textures.

I've not seen that one because I don't buy the magazine anymore. I got
too fed up reading how brilliant all the beta versions of games were
only to be confronted with the terrible reality. (Comment applies to UK
version but I hear the US version is much the same).

BTW I am running a DX2-66 so SVGA is a waste of time. Win the lottery or
do the wife in for the insurance I reckon.

We had a newspaper review here in Sydney which said similar, and then
went on to say that after all your setting up - RAIN can still ruin
your race.  Have these reviewers even touched this game?

Misleading is an understatement.

A TV report recently said that Frank Williams didn't like to have
World Champions in his team. Make of that what you will.

I conclude!

To give this impression is just not on!

I use a 166 pentium, 16Meg SDRAM, 2Meg video card and although love the game I
am still unhappy with the amount of detail I have to turn off!

The CPU probably isn't the problem. You need to buy an awesome video
card inorder to use full graphics. that is probably the problem.

Untrue it is the processor I'm running Stealth 64 (3240) 2mg Vram with a
P100 and it doesn't help...

TT> The CPU probably isn't the problem. You need to buy an awesome video
TT> card inorder to use full graphics. that is probably the problem.

There may be a "bottleneck" somewhere in his system, but from all the
posts when the game first appeared, and the careful comparisons of
GP2 logs, occupancy rates, and independant benchmarks (eg CD Bench)
with/without things like S3SPDUP, it's apparent that video cards are NOT
_that_ important to GP2.....sure a dead slow, ancient Tseng4000 thing
will hold everything up, but generally a reasonably fast/modern/equiped
motherboard with a monster CPU seems to be what it demands to have full
sky textures in your mirrors(!).

There were large numbers of reports of people with things like P100's
(slower bus speed) finding no advantage with the latest/trendiest video
card.....while others with P166/200's or PPro200's and No-Name 1Mb
graphics cards having a ball.

Some games certainly need a potent graphics card.....but GP2 seems very
CPU-dependant.

Cheers!

Well that might be part of your problem, dram video will bottle neck a
166pent. but dont expect a big difference, youll still have ta sacrafice
some graphics to get a fluid frame rate even on a 200mhz
pent.
