PCGamer N2 Review

Now that we have argued about the GP2 rating given in PC Gamer, they
have reviewed Nascar2.  ....strange noone has brought it up yet....
Anyway, he (Todd Vaughn) gave it a 90% rating.  I am curious what
CONSTRUCTIVE comments people have on this review (no flaming!!).  If you
agree/disagree after reading the article, please explain exactly why you
feel how you feel.  I repeat, NO FLAMES on the game or the review, only
logical discussion please...

Generally, I agree with the review. N2 is a game I find myself going
back to again and again. There aren't many games/sims that do
that.
I don't recall seeing any mention of the save game changes or network
and modem play info... Since I don't play multi-player, the save game
change is probably the biggest thing that was overlooked.
(I don't have the mag here, hopefully I'm recalling this correctly!)

What would you give the game if you were reviewing it?
Even though it isn't perfect, I think it is an "A" caliber game.
A patch should make it a classic, just like the first NASCAR.

Vaughn said it correctly when he said, "NR2 doesn't look
substantintially
different from it's predecessor, but then again it didn't really need
to."

I agree with the "90%" (still a great rating), because it was not _that_
revolutionary
compared to the original.  Only "world changing" games deserve much
above 92% IMO.

As it is, I think PC Gamer chould jack up their "Editors Choice" ratings
to include only
games over 90% (I think the cut off is 87%).

NR2 is a great game (bugs not withstanding -- I can't wait for the first
patch) and
deserves the "Editors Choice" Rating.

Not really related, but I was browsing through the game mags in a store
recently and came across a review of N2. I didn't bother reading much of
it and I can't remember the name of the mag but they were trying to
compare it with Destruction Derby!!! I guess that the reviewer had only
tired the arcade driving model as he didn't seem to think it was a real
sim!

A couple of other howlers: In a pre-Christmas roundup of last years games
Computer Shopper (UK version) did a review of GP2. It was obvious that
the guy had played it a lot but he was complaining that you couldn't stop
the PC from steering the car for you - guess he hadn't bothered messing
about with the menu options.... Topping that one though, they were
looking forward to the forthcoming release of the "much delayed" Indycar
II - I was thinking that I had entered some strange time warp <g>

Cheers,
Richard
