GPL on three monitors!

I remember many posts on this on r.a.s, at least 4-5times.  It was using a
triple monitor with the left/right view as two clients on each side by
keeping the keys down for those two functions.

But your idea of different camera positions is even better, as somehow you
could create the 3 dimentionnal effect of those two other camera (wide-view)
with a zoom angle pretty large.

Well yes that's true.  The way I thought was a simple 3-computer LAN where
the two other PC would serve as each side, but I think you dont have that,
just a simple PC with 3monitors, not 3monitors/3PC.

I have actually never seen a post about this fenomenal trick before, and I
read this forum regulary. I must read this forum more.

Yes, I have a 180 degres field of view in the***pit. I have worked a
little bit more on the camera files and it is getting really good now.

Well, I use 3 PC/3 monitors and it works good. The best part is that there
is no performance loss. The worst part is that I have 3 times more trouble
with crashes and other stupid errors. ;) And three sets off keyboards and
mice on the desk.....

I remember reading (and writing) about the idea to use Win98's
multi-screen capability to have three screens connected to three
graphics cards on one computer. IIRC, we dismissed the thought as
something that might work in a distant future, but not in a
foreseeable one. At least I did. Your idea to use a LAN seems new to
me at least. If it was mentioned before, it must have been in a thread
without "GPL" in the subject line - otherwise I would have seen it.

I sometimes work with more than one machine on one desk at one time,
and I know how confusing that can be. :)

It seems what is needed is a script that puts the 'side' machines
automatically into the mode desired. With the server version, GPL
supports scripts, but no video. Maybe some of the talented hackers in
this group can come up with something?

OK, just to put the record straight - I did read about this on r.a.s.
some time ago - apparently someone at Papy had the idea and tried it out
even before they released the game!

Shame they didn't put some code in there to make it easier - with all
the upgrading that goes on these days, it should be getting easier to
get hold of a couple of spare machines to do the extra views.

Thanks for the info, I'll search in Dejanews if I can find the old threads.

If I'm not completely mistaken, have this multimonitor feature been
available in flight sims for years. All we can hope fore, is that the next
generation of racing simulators have better support for MM.
