Normally you cant pick first gear until the last car is on the grid, if
someone arrives late, then you are going to have a problem. Normally,
though, the host should wait until everyone is at the track before he/she
goes in and then the countdown may be delayed a little bit so that everyone
has time to select a gear. But I remember the first time i couldnt choose a
gear. I thought my steering wheel was broken and left the game.
