Mosport is hard.

by Tony Jeste » Mon, 17 Jul 2000 04:00:00

I never liked Mosport in GPL, I find it very difficult plus the graphics
aren't too great, so I almost never practice there.  But I realize I can
save a couple seconds from my handicap, so I've been training there for
the last couple hours.  I've finally managed to get the hang of the two
major left hand turns, but I'm still having major problems with the jump
at the end. What usually happens is after landing, braking, and turning,
the car just slides off the left side of the track.  Are there any
tricks to making it easier?  Any setup tips for the Ferrari?  Thanks.

Brake and shift back to 4th gear before the top of the hill and you won't
loose control.

I agree -- a quick jab on the brakes before the top forces the car to jump
far less--also try and point the front wheels at the apex when you
land--slow into the corner and accelerate when youve got it under control

Same thing works for other similar crests - eg the Flugplatz.

I take a stab at the brakes and downshift to 4th before the crest of the
hill, this sets me up just right for the next turn.

Well, I find that the Andretti jump can be taken without gas where as Flugplatz
can only be driven smooth and fast by slowing down in advance, then accelerating
hard as you go over the top.

I just lift before the crest, and DO NOT hit the brakes or turn the wheel,
until the car has settled after landing.  You'll grow to love Mosport, it's
one of the more satisfying tracks in GPL

I loathe it with a passion!
I can (almost) drive a clean 170+ corner lap at the 'ring (8.47) but
can't do 9 corner mosport to save my life! I've only learnt it for the
sake of GPLrank.
God that site has a lot to answer for :)

Mosport is hard.

Ok,  just before the rise ease off ever so slightly and get the car
pointed in a straight line then power on up the rise (whilst still in
5th).  Then when you land brake like billy-shit and drop 2 gears to 3rd
and then turn in, EARLY (aim inside the driving line).  Somehow this
allows the car to slide out less whilst carrying more speed into the
corner.  Well... erm...  that's how I do it.  :)

That's my technique too.
A little scary at times though :-)

: Yeah, but you're...different.<g>

No he's right Eldred - once it "clicks" Mosport is great.  There's one
corner where you pop over a crest into a downhill off camber left-hander
and you just know that ALL the weight of the car is on the front right
wheel - it feels like balancing a chair on one leg.  I really got to
like that track after some extensive practice.

(Currently working on learning to love Mexico).
