Unfortuately there was nothing that could of helped Gags survive and the
Mosport safety team saved Gary Longo's life.

Outside those 2 series (and maybe Nascar) most others (including F1) rely on
volunteer emergency crews. And likely they won't be sitting in the
emergency vehicle with the engine running ready to jump into action.
Because of Mosport's layout there isn't as many location for emergency crews
to get out onto the track as there would be at some CART style courses
either.
If the wreck happened in turn 1 the closest crew would likely be in the
pitlane.
Canada doesn't have as many lawyers per captia that the USA has. I imagine
all the drivers have to sign some sort of waver.
True, on the upside the other driver was upgraded over the weekend an will
soon be transfered to a hospital in his home area.
