FWIW, I've got the torque_balance set at the default value again, but
this time I've reduced the torque_max values for BOTH the speedway and
standard chassis configurations, and I've added a slight bit more rear
downforce. All of this makes the back-end more manageable, yet still
leaves things lively enough to do donuts. The torque reduction seems
to have produced a "spool-up" or "clutch" effect -- the rpms have to
come up, and THEN things get moving, which I kind of like.
The back end may still be a little too lively for race starts and
restarts, but the easiest solution for this seems to be a simple
change in the gearing. With the gearing in the default setup,
Logitech users won't be happy, but if you change 1st gear from 3.00 to
something like 1.90 or such, it works much better for starts and
restarts. This may leave us with some gear ratios that seem
unrealistic, but if it works, you can't complain too much. ;-)
