Hi,

I only have the demo but I did the same upgrade (V3 to GF 2MX) on an
overclocked PIII 450 (510-ish). In Nascar 4 demo, unlike some other
games, the difference is easily noticeable. On average, I'd say the demo
profited 30-40% in FPS. Probably the use of T&L helps a bit, and I'd
dare to say it's true especially with slower processors. I have no idea
if it's of any use when other cars are nearby, but I gather that the
relative percentage in improvement should still be about the same.

That is probably true, but maybe something like 20 cars would be better.
Help with your frame rate and unless there are 20 cars in that wreck it
should work ok for you.

We are all still experimenting..

on my home built system and it runs and looks great. I find the thing most
interesting is Papy's approach to the scalability of the sim so almost
everyone
can run with the endless availability of options.

Agree, it runs great on my PIII500 V3 in 640 res with all graphics off
and no AI cars!
Oh well, tomorrow I'll get a new pc, PIII866, saturday I'm going to
buy one of those GFII cards (don't know which one yet) so then I can
run N4 too. Hey, the PIII500 was allready a half year old, it was time
to upgrade anyway.

The card will make a big difference. I had a V3 and switched to GF2 and
never
looked back. Great on everything I play GPL, N4, Crimson Skies, Janes WWII
Fighters, etc etc. and hey all on W2K !

I beg to differ... This might be true if graphics and eye candy are
all that matters.. To me, framerate consistency and smoothness are
what makes for a good driving game.. In this regard, NH is waaaaay
ahead.. If N4 ran as good as N3 does, as far as actual *driving* goes,
I'd agree, but it doesn't!

I could give a rat's patootie about pit guys running around and all
that other junk.. Being able to control the car with NO stuttering or
jumping is all that really matters to me..

Hmmmmmmmm,  you forgot to add it was your opinion because on my system your

Well, GPL runs smooth as a baby's ***on my system now, and is drop dead
beautiful. Wasn't so when it came out. Imagine what N4 will look like on
systems a year or two from now. I suppose they could have scaled it down to
today's levels, but we would be dissappointed in a few months.

Some people do nothing wrong.
The problem is, they do nothing.
And THAT is wrong.

Double edged sword really.. (and I tried to find something that didn't
sound like a pun) when you get those who spend $$'s on a 'only been
obsolete for a week' system and complain they can't run 'Insert game X'
at full detail and subsequently return it, or climb every mountain
yelling the poor coding, lazy programmers schtick.

I don't mind turning graphics options down, but I'm not sure eye candy
alone will give the game legs.

Cheers,
Rod.
