Voodoo2?

Voodoo2?

I bought a Voodoo2 PCI at a very, very cheap price. But I have a question or
two. Is all I have to do to install it is plug it in the PCI slot, hook up the
monitor, install the drivers and it is ready to go? If so, what is the cable
that was included and the ribbon for? Do I have to have something else to get
it to run? It didn't say anything else on the box about it.

ribbon is for 2 cards in sli (right?) mode. the cable comes out from your 2d
card and into the 3dcard, then to your monitor out of the 3d card. This way
if its 3dfx the prog. will use 3dfx card.. if its 2d it will use your 2d
card.

So, what you are telling me is:

1. Put the card in the PCI slot.
2. Run the cable from the old monitor "out" to the new card "in".
3. Plug the monitor into the new card "in" and install the software and it will
run in the 3dfx mode?

I don't have to have another card, it will just run in the 3dfx mode with just
the new card and the old one plugged in as describesd above?

Sorry for my ignorance...

You can ignore the ribbon-cable, unless you have two identical Voodoo2 cards
(known as SLI setup). For now, just hook up your single V2 card (like you
already described yourself). The V2 card is strictly 3D, so it will only come
into action when it's needed in games or other 3D applications. Your old 2D card
will do everything else (desktop, word processing, 2D drawing, etc.).

also, in most games you will be given an option to choose how the game
will be run, either during setup or in the options/video section.
Choose 3dfx or glide.

No, it was all on a CD ROM. All it talked about was installing 2 V2 cards
together.
