Has anyone purchased and used the per4mer force feedback wheel?  What are
your impressions of it?  Is it worth the money?

HI , Get it It is GREAT , Youll never go back to another wheel again. Your
driving a race car for as real as it gets .I have had mine two months
already it is made like a tank much better quality than thrustmaster
products . The effects are not to be believed , in cartprecision everything
is there even the rain, jump a curve you feel it ,get hit by another car the
wheel just about rips out of your hand , put a wheel on the grass, your on
grass no full power back on the track . and you feel the restiance of the
wheels . watch the track tours for the different cart tracks from in car and
the real drivers fight the wheel all the time . guess what you have to now
too cause your feeling the same things they are every bump everything . Phil

I was looking at this wheel, but was concerned about a few things.
How is the mounting system?  Can you _clamp_ it on a desk?  My Nascar
Pro wheel clamps nicely.  (even with a keyboard drawer)
I was hoping for a wheel with a shifter to, I'm pretty sure I didn't
see one on the Performer wheel.  (not that big of a deal though)   Are
all the butons programable via software, or only from a game menu?

Thanks!
Andy

Hi It clamps on very easily like the nascar pro . Buttons are programed from
game options only . and there is a plug for a upcomming add on shifter to be
comming soon I heard . but I got usted to the buttons very easily . The
wheel is very comfrotable and even though i wasnt nuts about the looks I
have grown to like it very much it is great and the extra buttons are cool
for setting look left and right brake bios ect . also works great for
gplegends bigger radius is helpful with old gp car handling . Phil Henzig

Phil,
Thanks for the info!  I was most concerned with the mounting options!
I'm not to crazy about the look either, but I can overcome that.  :-)
An addon shifter is a  great idea as well, and I do like the option of
all those extra buttons, even if they only offer in game programing.
My LAST question (honest), does it require a serial port like my CHFX
stick, or something else?  Somehow MS FF stick doesn't need a serial
port.  I'm just running out of IRQ's, but can swap with the CH stick
and the wheel if needed.

Thanks again!
Andy

Hi < yes it uses the serial port but rather then think of this as a pain
think of the fast data transfer . I read that the only way to not get a lag
with force feedback is using the serial port and I dont care what others say
I dont notice a lag and with my pent200mmx with voodo monster 1 I still get
31fps with all graphics on in cart precision Racing with the force feedback
wheel used . I read somewhere on this news group that for 200 dollars this
wheel cant be good , well for those people I say you dont know what your
missing . .This is a very good wheel , better than thrustmasters to date and
with force feedback you can't beat this wheel for any amount of money . It
is made to last . Just my two cents worth . Hope you give it I try and enjoy

It's not the only way by a long shot. The real truth to be gained from
what you read is "you can't do it well through the game port... :-)"

USB, ISA, PCI, parallel, SCSI, or Ethernet are all technically viable
interfaces in addition to the serial port.

For a "fast hack" (a few years ago) I thought of using the D-A in a sound
card to drive the input of an analog amp which would run the motor, the A-D
could read position off a pot.  Of course, you loose one channel of
sound (and need a true bi-directional sound card).  Never tried this one.
