Just another idea for a racing simulator

How about a racing simulator where you could build your own cars from
scratch? The cars will perform depending on how they are built with a, of
course, very good physics engine.

This is of course not an easy task to implement, but if the pieces you built
the car with were all big lego pieces... Each lego piece has a known mass
and center of gravity, for the physics engine to work with. The physics
engine will determine how much drag the car produce, and downforce. Since we
have no clue how the physics engine does that, we have to do as in real
life, experiment and use some sort of common sense.

When the car is built, the lego textures can be replaced and the edges
smoothened, so the car would actually look like a real car...

The advantage going the lego way here is that lego is digital. The tracks
can be made the same way.

With each new version of the simulator the physics engine gets updated and
you get more pieces. Maybe different sized tires, from karts to monster
trucks...

We could have online racing leagues where the league director sets up the
rules for building and perhaps change the rules during the season?

/Chrille, have always wanted more racing friendly tracks...

This is a great idea.. only prob.. I don't think it could ever sell...  but
things like Car packs etc.. would make it OK

I would build my own Clubman PRB or Westfield....  man that would be FUN!!!

Didn't Bethesda already try this with it's Xcars simulator...As I
recall, it didn't sell well at all.

At first thought... okay, maybe second and third too :o), but during the
fourth thought I wonder if predesigned car series and tracks would make it
sell a bit better?

It demands a lot of the physics engine. It should be able to simulate
anything from karts to monster trucks and beyond as believable as
possible... Maybe we have to wait another 10 years? What did we have 10
years ago that we called racing simulators? Take what has happened the last
10 years and extrapollate another 10 years...

/Chrille
