My Year old Voodoo 5/5500 card died in the first days of
September.  Remember those days, when nobody knew how to spell
Afghanistan?

   I tried a GeForce 2 Max 64 card, but NFS-PU, which my
buddies are ***ed to, wouldn't run on it.  I tried
different IRQs but no luck.

I was surprised that Voodoo 5 cards could still be found
as an OEM product, which meant no pretty box or printed
literature.

So I got one and Porsche Unleashed worked as before.

This weekend I decided to take a lap at Nurburgring and
GPL froze as soon as I dropped into the***pit.  I could
run the RPM up and down, and click through the gears, but
visually it was a photograph.  Keys had no effect, not even
<CTL-ALT-DEL>, so I had to hard start, with the blue screen
on Windows startup telling me it was checking for damaged
files.

I reloaded WIN98SE from tape, removed GPL and re-installed
it, with the 1.2 patch, and tried again.  As soon as I dropped
into the***pit I gave the wheel a twist, and my front wheels
had time to turn, and then everything was frozen again.

   Any suggestions?

                                                        Thanks
                                                        Larry

Same problem vith v3 if I run too high  (1024x 768) and up.
But D3D works bether.
Try underclocking your v5, for a test

Having been forced to go to D3D from Glide due to an upgrade, I can't
see any reason to use D3D over Glide. Image quality is terrible in
D3D, I can run higher resolution but it doesn't look better, it looks
worse!

It's definitely a 3D video lockup, same as when the card crashes if
it's over clocked. As Stefan said, try underclocking it as a test.
Also, try D3D and OpenGL to see if they work at all. Also try
different drivers, etc.
