help. DX7 messes up GPl sound??

by D&S Schwab » Sun, 05 Dec 1999 04:00:00

Hi all,

Got a voodoo 3 3000, love it. installed it with the OEM drivers, worked
perfectly in GPL.

I should not have messed with a good thing, but I thought i'd get the latest
drivers for it... bad idea. It installed the drivers AND DX7, and I think
that is what is causing MAJOR sound problems within GPL. I have an SB Live
Value card that sounded perfect until I loaded the new 3dfx drivers with
DX7. Now the sound is garbled... the revs don't come up smoothly, they are
choppy. I am majorly mad.

as a precaution, i got the new SB Live drivers too... didn't help a***.
I've reinstalled the 3dfx drivers, too, nothing helps.

So has anyone used something called DX Remove? If so, where can I get it? I
want to get rid of DX7 and go back to 6.1.

Thanks,

--Dave

I've the same components as you, with DX7. Thing you can try,
is putting the soundcard in another PCI slot...

Oh, didn't try your setup, yet. Will do tomorrow!

Cheers!

help. DX7 messes up GPl sound??

I'd be inclined to think that it is the Voodoo drivers that might be
doing this.

I have to use the 1.02.18 drivers because the 1.03.04 ones mess up
System Shock 2, and gameplay is much slower in most games.  When I go
back to an older version, even with DX7 installed everything is fine.

If you need them you can get past drivers from http://www.voodoo.dk

Might be worth a try.

Regards

Andrew
