F12001:after racing clicking back icon>desktop !!!

by lock » Thu, 17 Jan 2002 23:33:59

Every time I click on the "back"-icon on  after having raced, the little
trangle left of the menu,  F12001 sends me home to the desktop.
It's original software from EA, and it does not happen when I install the
game at work. At work I have a dell dimension 4100, P3 800, with an old
geforce 256 graphics, 128 mb Sdram card and Win 98 SE. At home i have a win
98 SE again, with a LWFF on a abit bx board with an overclocked celeron at
850. A vid vard powercolor mx with support of two monitors, 384MB sdram.
Anyone to help ?

Have you tried the first update from EA sports?

Yes, I did. It does not matter at all.
I deinstalled DX-8, reinstalled the version with the EA F12001 CD. Than I
deinstalled everything of Nvidia on my disk. Reinstalled the official 21.85
version Powercolor is offering on their site. Nothing. Installing the nvteak
utils, e.g. to set v-sync to none, no help.
Someone in an other forum mentioned the option of F12001 not liking CPU's
being overclocked. Personally, I think that's bull shit but in this case,
you never know..I've got one overclocked allright, but Mike and Jean-Yves,
did you too overclock the CPU ?

I had exactly the same problem and NOTHING I tried fixed the problem.
I tried different detonator drivers, reinstalling DX8, you name it..
Finally I found the solution:
C:\deltree windows and reinstall windows.. worked for me..

Slik. Dit klinkt niet goed... (dutch language).
Andr, in that case, is it a sensible thing to install XP and not win 98 SE
? Or did you stick to the old boy ?

I stuck to 98SE because I hardly have problems with it and back then
(a couple of months ago) I still read about a couple of problems with
XP, one of them being the drivers for my Saitek X45 not working under
XP. Afaik most of those problems have been solved now so I think I'll
install XP soon.
Since the reinstall of 98SE my computer hangs more than it used to do
before the reinstall.. and it was a complete fresh reinstall :-/

But serious, F1 2001 was the only game that ever forced me into
reinstalling windows to get rid of the problem. It used to work and
then suddenly, without changing or installing anything at all, it
didn't work anymore. Reinstalled windows, reinstalled F1 2001 and all
is ok now. Except for my weird stuttering problems posted in a new
thread..

BTW, EA has responded to my mail. I have to provide them with my Dx-data to
help them find a solution. I'll do that next monday. As soon as I get a
result from EA I will post it in the group.
