Maybe its due to a staggered release date, but I am suprised that this
sim is not getting constant positive reviews here in R.A.S.

This is the first sim I have ever purchased (and I have most) that is
great staright out of the box.

I only have a mid level pc (P111 600 32 meg TNT2) but the game play
start menu etc are great and the feeling of speed, especialy into the
braking area is breathtaking.

I was a big fan of F1rs and then to a lesser degree F1RS2 (Monaco)
however in my opinion, Ubisoft have lifted the bar significantly with
this one, which is superior to EA's F1CS.

my pros are

very speedy menu
great replay mode
excellent feel of speed
7 speedbox (Ferrari)
Amazing graphics representation of the circuits (I have ***ed around
the Melbourne GP circuit on many occasions, its identical)
Genuine wheelspin feel
The way the car can snap out under acceleration

my cons are

Very weak paper manual
the menus are a bit arcade sytle for me, I prefered their earlir
versions
***pit is a bit weak
I cant get the on screen data off (see my post about FOCA Tailoring)
sound needs improving
cant turn the music off

Just some personal opinions
Glenn

You must then be really having fun against yourself, without any AI or Human
to race against.  That's really the spirit of Formula One.

That's the understatement of the week.

Yeah, after three releases they still aren't able to implement a realistic
engine sound.

<snip>

It IS a very good game Glenn, but some of the major cons spoil the end
result, for me at least:

- Verrrry bad AI
- max multiplayer of 4, above that it becomes a warpfest
- bad force feedback, which is heavily needed in a racing sim

So while I enjoyed F1RC tremendously in the first weeks, hotlapping, I
soon stopped playing it because of the bad AI and multiplayer.
The AI patch will be released April 16th, so I'm waiting for that.

The other cons you mention actually don't affect gameplay that much..
the***pit is weak, but while racing you don't notice it really, and
the moving hands is a very nice detail. Music is only in the menu's,
and there are allready improved sounds available for F1RC.

I downloaded a few replacement sounds, and they werent that great... what
site did you get them from, and what were they (ie file name or general
name)? Cause I'm sure there has to be better sounds out there than the
default ones by now.... :) Thanks!

What's the spirit?  Racing against AI or racing against humans?  There are
plenty of people racing F1RC online.  If you did it yourself, you'd know.

I found a link to a good f1rc site on http://www.sportplanet.com/hg/ ,
but I'm at work and don't have my racing bookmarks here.
It was a german site. I'll post the url when I get home from work.

Racing against a field of either humans or AI.

Be sure I tried them.  What's the fun of driving 3-4 people at the same
time?  It just shows that Ubisoft can't code.

Is it released in Oz? Where'd you get it?

Any reputable software store should have it, I've seen it
everywhere, picked it up a few weeks ago.

Cheers,
Rod.

Pick the only copy up at Hardly Normal last week.  I haven't seen it
anywhere else since so I may be worth getting on the phone.  I suspect
there was an small release initially.

Worth the $49 IMHO.

Compare the performance of the Ubisoft 3D Engine and that of F1CS2000 and
you can see that it is infact EA who are publishing lazy code.
