F1RC Demo---Fantastic

F1RC Demo---Fantastic

I think I may have finally found the sim I've been waiting for. As much as I
like GP3 and F1CS2000, I'll be able to delete them from my hard drive
tonight. This is definitely beta code though (IMO) and IT IS very common for
developers to release demos (despite what some might say) with beta code if
they want the demo out before the release of the full game.

Graphics are absolutely stunning and run very smoothly (common for Ubi Soft
games). Also, there is no fisheye effect (which I don't like) and you can
really tell where you are on the track unlike some other sims. GP3 and GPL
does this well too. F1CS seemed to me like it had too much of the fisheye
effect.

Sound is poor. I had to turn the treble down all the way just to be able to
get the engine sound to an acceptable level. I'm sure this will change in
the final version.

Controller setup and performance is excellent. I really like the way the
steering feels with this sim. Throttle response is excellent and smooth, and
steering is precise and smooth as well.

PHYSICS.......feel excellent. Similiar to F1CS only better. Less understeer
and definitely more difficult even though anti-lock brakes and no-skid were
enabled at 40% on pro level. There is an expert level which is not available
in the demo. As is, try going full throttle through Eau Rouge. I doubt too
many people will be able. I also like the wheel spin you can get in third
gear. Sticky at high speeds, and very twitchy at low speeds if your not
careful with the throttle. It just feels "right" to me.

I'd write more but I'm tired and it's 2:30a.m. I'll bicker with some of you
tomorrow. :-)

BTW, based on comparison still shots and video footage, track accuracy in
this sim may be second to none.

Good for you.  I would also love to find my perfect modern F1 sim.  GP2 was
as close to it when it was released, but every other (including F1RC) failed
miserably to my eyes.

Still, don't expect that we all like it. It's obvious the taste of the
majority in this NG are very different then yours, and over the years you
have never accepted the fact.

Whoa DGF actually writing something that make sense? ;-)     It's obvious
that some game engines (and the direct relation to the artistic views and
2d/3d modeling) create much more realistic and vivid recreation of the
terrain.

I can't enable my pedals to work with it (either couldn't I in another
version).

Such thing is true, the game engine (which isn't totally new as it still
based on the previous but heavily modified) has finally gave us a good
feeling.  It's still not enough for me, it's not enough *** to my eyes.
I could also whine about the track realism, but we all know about me vs.
that ;)

I assume that statement above means that my standards are lower than others
here at r.a.s. What some have never seemed to understand is that my
standards are actually much higher than most. No sim yet has come close to
what I imagine as the ultimate sim. That's why I'm not overly critical when
giving my opinions. I don't go overboard insisting that a sim is SO
realsitic, and all others pale in comparison (like certain fans of a certain
sim often do) because to me, that viewpoint is ridiculous. I've accepted the
fact that there's a long way to go before a sim blows me away with it's
realism. In the meantime, I try to enjoy what is available. If I can't do
that then I'll have to just give up the hobby alltogether which would be
kind of ridiculous. Trying to label me as someone who can't comprehend what
the "hard-core" here at r.a.s. consider a true sim is silly.

I think your enthousiasm about 4x4 Offroad and your disliking of GPL
is saying enough here. No problem if you like 4x4, but this is about
-sim- racing, and 4x4 Offroad is as far from a sim as you can imagine.
And now you are stating that your standards are much higher than
most... You're funny :)

Anyway, back to the topic, the F1RC demo.
- Graphics are the best so far for an F1 game. Very detailed, tracks
seem -spot on- (really Frank), the car and especially the tires look
superb,***pit is less impressive but still looks ok. Perfect fps on
my
- Sound: The WORST I ever heard! Gave me a headache after a couple of
lacks.
- Physics: First reaction was so-so, but I just had to get used to the
controls a little bit. After I gave it some more time it's much better
than I expected it to be. Better than GP3 (not that that is an
achievement) but it seems to be on par with F1CS2000. Yet we can't say
for sure untill we can drive on 100% realistic mode.

So far, it seems to be a winner.. what I wonder, will this sim be
editable like GPL and F1CS2000, I mean new graphics, sounds and track
addons?

Oh here we go again - all the old favourites crawling out of the woodwork!
Actually Francois I think you'll find that most people on this ng (except
for some of the hard core) over a long period of time agree with DGF - it's
you who usually comes out with statements that are inflammatory and
difficult to back up.

You assume wrong, I just stated that it's different.

Yet you praise in this newsgroup titles that are obviously not serious.
