F1GP problem

by Ian Re » Fri, 13 Oct 1995 04:00:00

Some time ago I posted a query about a problem I had with F1GP
crashing with a Parity Check error [I have the PowerPlus cheapie
distribution].  I didn't receive and followup from the group, nor did
I have any joy with Microprose or my machine vendors -- it happened on
both a Viglen laptop and a Dell minitower.

However I did get to the bottom of it (well, not quite -- it's fixed
but I don't know the real reason).  It seems that the boot disk I made
using the auto-setup facility was corrupt in some way.  Since I have
manually made boot-disks for the two machines I have not had a repeat
crash.

I'm posting just in case anyone is experiencing the same problems.

Cheers, Ian

F1GP problem

I had the same problem.  It was a complete bastard since it kept happening
approx. every 15 mins of game time so I had to save the game frequently.  I
solved the problem by wiping out a boot sector virus which was resident on my
hard drive (I use the dos 6.0 menu to go straight to the game so I don't need
to make a floppy boot disk).

If anyone else has the same problem then checking for a boot sector virus is
always a good start.  It's seems quite strange that two people on this
newsgroup got exactly the same virus... well, not that strange.

BTW, if you run the game under windows then the win equivelnt of the problem is
the game crashes and it gives the following errror in a window:

This application has violated system integrity due to a general protection
error.  Quit all applications and restart your machine etc....

I hope this helps someone because take it from me, it's a complete bastard...
