Nvidia drivers - Best for GF2 GTS?

by James Pickar » Fri, 10 May 2002 22:57:32

Hi there,

I have just gone from a GF2 MX 200 64 meg card, to a GF2 GTS 32 meg card.  A
bit of a difference, probably about 25-30% faster.

I'm running 28.32 drivers, and while the performance is better than default
XP drivers (running WinXP, 512 ram, PIII 866), I get a lot of graphic
freezes and system hangs.  At the moment, the graphics just freeze and I
have to do a 'hard reset'.

What are the best drivers for this?  I know 28.32 are 'beta', and everyone
has different experiences, but is there generally a good driver to use?

Thanks in advance,

James

PS.  Maybe I"ll go back to default XP drivers just to keep it stable.  Oh
yeah, and no overclocking what so ever, case is open, system running at
default, CPU and v/card.

Running the 28.32 drivers from NVIDIA here on Windows XP Pro for my GeForce2
MX/MMX400 card with no problems.  If you have one of the Creative Labs sound
cards, you might want to take a look at the hardware acceleration on it
(Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices/Speaker
Settings/Advanced/Performance tab).  There seem to be lots of problems
showing up in display from these drivers being "over-driven."  Adjust the
top slider toward the left a couple notches and see if that helps.

You will probably find the 23.11's to be the best with XP for anything less
than a GF4. The default XP drivers do not have OpenGL support so they are
very limited.

IMO the best for any GF card in Win2000/XP is the 23.11

Now with Win9X/ME the 23.11 are turds and the 28.32 drivers are much better.

FWIW the 28.32 are not beta.

The 29.11s are for XP and especially designed for your card...........

Yes, the 28.32 are better than the previous 2x.xx ones, but anyway I switched
back to 6.50 again because of the 720x480 mode for TVout. This way I can record
those amazing GPL movies on tape...
