GP2 after GPL

Hi all,
Just a quick question really. Having recently re-installed GP2 on my pc
after concentrating mainly on GPL I just wondered how anybody else who had
gone back to it found their ability to drive the cars had changed. One of
the earlier posts concerning GP3 made mention of the fact that in GP2 there
was a very swift transition from slightly slipping to fully sliding and
personally I always used to find it almost impossible to catch the car once
it started to go. Now however, I can definately push the car much harder
than pre-GPL and have managed to catch several potential spins which would
have had me off the track before.

Just wondered if anybody else had found this.

Hi Peter,

At Imola (one of my favorite tracks with that downhill-esses section :-), I
moved from 1:30 to 1:26.  Still scarier than hell to go that fast!  Hehe.  The
speed was probably due to increasing the downforce, but can't say for sure.  I
was certainly paying more attention to not upsetting the car.

I've never seen this canned spin problem that everyone talks about.  Maybe
because I run with a softer suspension?  I'm still 3 seconds off the best time
of 1:22 at Imola. LOL.  GP2 also has the rule that quick left-right motions
would allow you to flip-a-180.  Maybe this has something to do with problems in
catching spins?

Jason.

I think the ones who say "it's impossible to catch a spin" are just using
really bad setups.  I know I learned some useful tricks for setting up the
car in GP2 from GPL.  Everything happens slower in GPL, so you can really
see the differences setup changes make.

Make sure you don't have opposite lock help turned on, by the way. ;o)  It's
sorta buried in the controller setup menu.  You can drive like freaking
Gilles with that sucker!

I've often found this happening, but it many games. I remember the
days when Sonic The Hedghog seemed impossible to beat and now I can
complete it in half hour.

As we move on to more evolved and detailed simulators, our ability to
combat the easier ones increases.

I've noticed this too. After long sessions with GPL, it's like I'm
too "hyperactive" in GP2, easily correcting the most crazy and even
long lasting rear-end freakouts! It takes only a few minutes to
settle-in again and drive though. I think GPL helps improve driving in
GP2.

I'd be driving a lot faster if I could just get out of the habit of lifting
during gearchanges <G>

I found pretty much the same with ICR2.

I had never experienced a sim which gave me the visual feedback that it
should until I got gpl. And after over a year of GPL i installed ICR2, i
found that I could now interpret ICR2 much better, it's a kickass simulation
and very realistic, I just didn't know how to interpret the info it was
giving me, papyrus sims will be going on forever :)

I guess it was me who wrote that slipping, sliding stuff, and yes, I did
the same thing as you did (GP2 after GPL), and yes, my driving was far
better. I sense much sooner when I am about to start spinning so I don't
spin this much, and I tuned my setups so that now I am actually able to
throttle steer in fast corners. Still, I have a feeling that the
difference of grip when at the optimum slip angle and when fully sliding
is a tad too big.
