NR2003 Opengl sunglare bug

I know this has been an issue since NR2003 came out.  You have to shut
off Sunglare effects with open gl with nvidia cards, works without a
problem in directx.  Anyone have a soluton, since opengl tends to give
me a slightly higher fps.  Thought this issue would be resolved with
the patch.  Is this a nvidia driver issue or a papy issue?

Relevant specs: GF4 Ti4400, P42.25 GHz

Thanks

Weird.  I run sunglare in opengl and I'm not seeing any rendering bugs
or significant performance hits.  This is on a ti4400.

I think this problem was rather limited and specific. I think it was related
to using Aniso and FSAA, and then the stutters only occurred under specific
circumstances at specific tracks and only at specific track locations.

I think I saw them in T3 or T4 of Michigan, with sunny weather. A very brief
slowdown in framerate. Still driveable but noticeable. I also think you'd
probably never see it on add-on road courses, as they have different
lightmaps (or none at all) etc.

Funny thing is, with my old GF3 Ti200 I never had this problem. Then I
'upgraded' to a FX5900Ultra and I get 7fps whenever the sun comes out, using
the same drivers. Madness.

Are you using any FSAA and AF?  I'm betting you are now, and were not with
the GF3.  The problem is the combo of sunglare and FSAA.  Personaly I always
ran D3D because IMO the image quality was better.  Of course I now have a
9700 pro instead of my GF3 so I'd run D3D anyway.

You can add Hillside, I think it is, to that list. In T3-T4 with  4X FSAA
and 4X AF turned on, the sun glare in that corner drops my FPS from the mid

1024x768x32, with a GF FX 5600 Ultra with the 45.23 drivers in WinXP Pro in
an AMD 2800+ system with a gig of DDR.

I tend to run a lot of eye candy (but not all) so flipping off the glare is
no biggie to me. I'd rather have the 90-120 FPS everywhere and this sun
thing is a recent addition to a sim that I raced for years prior without it
and had great enjoyment. I don't need it now to enjoy it any better
personally.

That is very weird I' know of other who have the problem.  Are you
sure you are running opengl?  It takes a huge performace drop in turn
1 I belvie at Daytona or dega.

You're right I do run 4x AA, and Ansio is off, its the AA with opengl.
So besides shutting off sun glare, or AA,i is this a bug on Nvida's
part or Papy's?

I don't remember whose fault it is.

IIRC its more of an openGL thing than a Papy or Nvidia thing.  If you want
both just run in D3D.  From what I have seen there isn't near as much
differance in frame rates in NR2003 as there was in the past.

I read your other thread.  I believe the problem is limited to running
4x FSAA and AA.  I do see the same problem you are if I crank both of
those up in OGL.  Since I don't run with either enabled, I hadn't seen
the problem before.
