Changing Detonators?

Hi,

I am planning to test some detonators drivers (different versions). How do I
install/Uninstall or just overinstall?

Thanks,

Brian

says...

Go into your display properties and set your video card to "Standard
VGA." Reboot. Once the computer is running under the Standard VGA driver,
install the new Detonator drivers. Reboot again. Voila -- new drivers.

Here is my typical routine.

1) Download and unzip the driver you want to install to a folder on your
hard drive. Myself I do it to C:\nvidia\xxxx were xxx equals the driver
number without any ".". The folder names don't really matter, but its a nice
way to keep track of which folder is what driver version.

2) Reset your video card to run the standard VGA drivers and restart the
computer. It may want to reinstall drivers during the restart just hit
cancel and finish loading windows.

3) From add remove programs uninstall the current Nvidia drivers

4) Search the windows system folder for files named nv*.*. This should bring
up the nvidia driver files. You may need to use some common sense here. If
you unsure of what files to delete just compare the found files to the files
in your driver sub folder to make sure they match names. I only get driver
files with that search, but your system and software may vary.

5) restart computer and this time when it wants to install the video card
point it to the location of the driver you want to try. If your system
doesn't try to install new hardware on the reboot just use the update driver
in the device manager and point that to the driver sub folder.

Usually if your going from older to newer you won't have problems. The
problems usually come when trying to go backward in driver revisions. Also
get yourself a tweak program like Nvmax or Geforce Tweak and make sure that
all options are set the same before you do any comparisons. Alot of the time
the drivers will have different default values and that can give you some
bogus scores when benchmarking.
