Thought you all maybe interested I've just upgraded my 100 meg Pentium
with 24 meg of RAM and I suddenly have lots of new sounds like people
talking in the pit lane before the engine fires up, Other car noises and
Crowd roaring when you have a spin. It's getting more real all the time

I assume you are talking about GP2...

Is this really true? If so why hasn't
anyone else noticed this before. We know these
sounds exist but do you need so much RAM to hear
them?

Either he's talking about a different game or he's from Micrprose and
has a contract with some hardware-discounters ! :-)

I just upgraded from 16MB to 32MB and I don't get any new sounds.  I don't
get any better graphics performance either by the way.  This is on a P133
and it's EDO ram.

I also think its bullshit.

Talking of sound effects, I download a Ferrari V12 Idle sound effect last
night for Pieter? web site, and its not bad, are there anymore sound
changes out there, I would really like more V12 sounds. (In other words,
make my Ferrari sound like a real Ferrari and not half a job)

I have P133 32MB and I get the sound of the crowd, thoigh faint, before
engine start, and the noise of other cars whilst in the pits, but not
the crowd cheering when I go off.

He's not talking about GP2, or he's pulling a joke on everyone. Those sounds like
people talking in the pits and crowd-roars aren't in the sample.cat file.
On the other hand, about the amount of RAM : I first had 8MB and did not hear
cars going past the pits and no crowd when on the jacks. After making it 16MB
I did. One of my friends has 24MB, but he doesn't get more sounds then I get.
BTW, the crowd-sound has pretty low volume because it's only a background sound, so
when you're on the jacks, turn up the volume to check it out.
