Like many I have been blown away by the sounds in the GTR mod.  However,
I have found that some others, like my wife, do NOT share an enthusiasm for
the Marcos sounds cranked to level 10.
You think after 20 some-odd years, at least some of me would have rubbed
off on her.
Two laps around Sugo was all I managed before she was screaming about ears
bleeding or something like that...couldn't really hear what she was
saying....  :)
So just for her, I'll turn it down...to like 9.5 :)

The Marcos is heaven on earth. My Polk Audio 5.1 speakers never knew
what they were going to be asked to do but they have served me well over
the last 36 hours or so. Stuff keeps falling off my desk from the
subwoofer so I guess that's a good sign :-)

I'm lucky that I work from home, so when the wife and kids left this
morning I RAN to my home office and cranked it up -- that was about
7:20. This was the first opportunity I had gotten to turn it up on my
speakers (had to use the headphones last night to keep from waking the
kids) and I was in sim heaven. 9:00 -- conference call -- CRAP! OK boss,
yeah, yeah I hear ya. Sounds good -- later! Man, 9:30. Lost a half hour
of gameplay. Well, coulda been worse. Back to it. About 10:15, phone
rings. SHIT! Who the hell is calling me at my JOB! ;-)

This went on throughout the day...my head hurts now and I gotta get the
kids in bed before I am allowed to race some more. Gotta go! :-)

LOL - My poor neighbors :(  Dolby 5.1 Speakers with my Audigy are kicking some
serious arse with these sounds!  I've just been spinning around Brands Hatch in
the Lister.  What a beautiful track!!!

So far all of the engine sounds I have heard in the mod have suffered from
distortion at the upper rev range...

I like the fullness of the sound and I have a very high end set of speakers
and amp that my computer plays through, so it isn't my equipment.

Odd, because with the raving about the sounds, it was the thing I was
looking forward too most, but may be the most disappointing (other than the
constant FFB vibrating).

just got done with a 2 hr session (felt like 15 minutes). oh those sounds.
those heavenly, heavenly sounds.

Doth mine ears deceive me? Could that be the whine of a gearbox I hear?

There's a thread about this on the GTR2002 forum. The developers
deliberately clipped the sound at high RPM to simulate the type of distorted
sound you hear for real when travelling in a tin can racing car at high
speed. The didn't want the sound to be "clean" as it wasn't realistic enough
for them.

I assume you tried setting FFB effects to medium and putting a small
deadzone on the steering axis?

Dave:

Don't you realize the Marcos is motivated by a "bowtie?"

Too bad it's not painted Milennium Yellow for your driving pleasure...

Hehe; a 'Vette in (odd-looking) disguise.   First thing I thought when I
fired up the Marcos was how much it sounded like the C5R's did at Petit
Lemans.  Can't feel the concussion hitting your chest from 100ft away like
the real thing though!

Second thing was how much it sounded like NT2003.  If you have it, or the
demo, compare the engine wavs for low through high... ;-)

Now if we can just get developers to add matching off-throttle sound samples
into the cross-fade mix, we'll really have something.

I will be happy to set the FFB to medium when someone tells me what exactly
I am losing by doing that.  I want to get rid of ONLY the annoying
vibration, not ANY of the legitimate FFB.

That is most unfortunate.  Thanks for the explanation, though.

I don't have a clue. I do know that on "full" there's some kind of "surface
roughness" feel included, which I didn't like with the F1's, but with the
GTs I've turned it back on and reduced overall strenght in the MOMO
properties. Before I read the replies to your posts I didn't know it was
possible to go into more detail. I'll follow up on that if I get the time.

Which wheel are you using BTW. Earlier tonight I really noticed something
rattling in my MOMO in unison with the kerbs in the track. Seeing as other
poster have reported on the motor working itself loose, I took it apart (bit
fiddly getting it back together again, so don't open it unless you're pretty
confident you can do this). I found the motor mounting had indeed loosened
to provide about 3mm of "play". With the motor firmly attached again (and
therefore dampened by the mechanism) it vibrates much less.

I have a brand new "new" MOMO.

Just wonder what the levels of FFB include and uninclude?
