N4: best HW config

Maybe I'm a little inattentive but I've not yet understood which is the
minimum requirements to run N4 with solid fps.

I'm intentioned to get a new PC based on:

ADM Athlon 1,2 GHz
256 Mb RAM PC 133
GeForce 2 GTS 32 Mb DDR

How many fps are experimenting those people with such a system IN 16 BITS
and 1024x768?

I think using 16 bits and staying on 1024x768 with 43 AI and most graphics
on, I could get a GeForce2 GTS STD (with 32 Mb DDR) instead of the Ultra,
enjoying the game as well.

(Vice-versa I don't think a GeForce MX would be a good choice for N4)

Am I too optmimist??  :-|

You may be, Steve. But then again, I think I'm having more trouble than
I should be. I'm no expert, so I'd love to have some others chime in
here. Here's my setup:

Athlon 1.0 GHz
256 Mb DDR
GeForce2 Ultra 64 Mb DDR
1152x864x16
V-Sync off
43 cars
Most everything turned waaaaaaay down* (I'm not at home right now; can't
remember)
10 cars drawn ahead; 2 behind

I'm struggling along near 30 fps on the *pace laps*! It dips into the
20s if there is any sort of wreck.
I'm starting to think that 43 cars just isn't going to work for me. Does
anybody have any suggestions?

Something has to be wrong there.  You should definitely be getting
better performance.  I am getting anywhere from 29 to 43 fps from the
***pit view with the following setup:

43 Cars
12 drawn ahead
3 drawn behind
detail sliders set to 50% (except for mirror which is 25%)
smoke on
skid marks on
all other effects off
800X600X16 in Direct3D

600MHz Athlon
128 Mb PC100 RAM
16MB TNT2 (non ultra)

I would suggest he is in D3D and not OpenGL

Here is what I get

43 cars
20 drawn ahead
3 drawn behind
detail sliders set to 50% (except for mirror which is 25%)
smoke on
skid marks on
all other effects on
1024x768X16 in OpenGL
This is at Taladega/California/Daytona

Frame rates are about 40  with a drop to 28-31 along the pit straight
on all the tracks

128 Mb PC133 RAM
Gerforce256 32meg DDR

Not sure if you were referring to me, but I am using OpenGL...
