I think that remains to be seen, since we don't know how well the GPL
engine is going to take to it's Direct 3D conversion.
I have a Voodoo2 and a TnT2, so I've experimented with Glide and
OpenGL. Other than the flaky mirror issue, the OpenGL version looks
nice, but I was getting an average of 7-10fps less using it.
D3D is going to be VERY important to this sim, especially since it'll
already have the high overhead of large fields of cars compared to
GPL.
Don't start buying hardware yet. Six months can be an eternity in
computer time. I wouldn't even count on seeing N4 by then, since
companies seldom meet their projected release dates.
Tim
I know one flight simulator that plainly converted Glide to Direct 3D.
It's Jane's F/A-18. It performes better on Voodoo 3 other than nVidia
cards or Matroxs G400. So I'm expecting Voodoo 5 or maybe Voodoo 6
with T&L engine will be suit for NASCAR Racing 4.
Though,
I agree with you. Even after release of N4, it's not too late to make
decision after due consideration.
