NASCAR4 1.3 patch problems with HTP370 RAID controllers

by Eric Busc » Mon, 22 Oct 2001 08:50:25

Sony and HighPoint have identified an incompatibility with the updated
SecuROM copy protection used by the NASCAR? Racing 4 1.3 patch and
certain HTP370 RAID Controller driver combinations.  Until they have a
fix available, you might want to try the older HTP370 version 1.0.3
drivers as these have proven successful for some users.  HighPoint
recommends that you not connect any CDROM drives to the RAID controller,
and instead use the motherboard's standard ATA controller.  Additionally
if you're currently not using the RAID functionality for your hard
drives, you might to temporarily switch them over to the standard ATA
controller as well.

I think I should follow up on this :)

Like everyone else, I appreciate the hard work the Papy team does on N4.  I
especially appreciate Eric taking the time to post these messages here.

However, that does not dilute my disdaine for copy protection, and the
difficulties it causes for honest owners of the program.

Again, Eric, thanks for posting these updates for us!

Ironic, isn't it.

The games are cracked before you can usually buy the product but
the protection schemes being used affect legitemate buyers.

Cheers,
Rod.

can downlaod it? Tia.. Thom_j.
P.S. Please read my post "Still cant get N4 to run after 1.3 patch!!
Help!" and the replies so you know what I have been going thru!

You should be able to get the 1.0.3 driver from either from your
motherboard manufacturer's web page, or from HighPoint themselves:

Eric first thank you for your reply!!
Now I was just getting ready to post this and I hope you will have
the time to read & figure my mess out! Also you will notice below
this is in my bios & I never***with my bios but it also is in my
Windows Hardware profile under my Sony Tape Backup Device!
Can I just disable "exists in all hardware" Or Do I have to change
my bios drivers from 1.0.6xxx to 1.0.3xxx?? I'm really not happy
with doing this for one Patch that is messed up!!
So any help or suggestions will be appreciated!...Tia.. Thom_j.

Here is what I wrote before I saw you reply Eric;
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ok Nascar 4 & Computer Gurus I finally located my
HPT370 RAID info I will try to explain below the best
that my little brain can.. Here we go:
This starts up right as my computer boots & displays all this
info below:
HighPoint Technologies, Inc (c) 1999-2000
HPT370 UDMA/ATA100 RAID version v1.0.0.62006.20.2000
 So my HighPoint is in my bios for ATA100RAID!
But under my Windows System Properties
It tells me this:
General
HPT370 UDMA/ATA100 RAID Controller
Device type: SCSI Controllers
Manufacturer: HighPoint
Hardware version: 003
{side note by me: I have nothing runing via SCSI and this
is under my Extrenal Sony Tape Backup 10gig that runs
thru my parallel port, so to me, this makes no sense?}
HPT370 UDMA/ATA100 RAID Controller
Drver files:
C:\WIN98\SYSTEM\IOSUSBSYS\Hpt3xx.mpd
C:\WIN98\VCMIOS.vsd
Provider: HighPoint Technologies, Inc
File version v1.0.0.62006.20.2000
Copyright: Copyright (c) 1999-2000 HighPoint
Date: 7-14-2000
So if this is what is stopping me from running Nascar 4
with the newer 1.3 patch, What do I do.. Anyone??
Tia Thom_j.
You could try installing the 1.0.3 driver update for the HTP370 RAID
controller as downloaded from HighPoint.  If you're not comfortable
doing this, I'd suggest you wait for an official solution.
Thank you again Eric!!! I even went on my Abit mother board
page [here: http://www.racesimcentral.net/] to see how to update it
{I'm behind not ahead arent I? yikes!} & under "How To" for
{here: http://www.racesimcentral.net/}
my 'Abit SA6R' I have to make a bootable floppy and the put
the exe in there with this command in DOS:
A:\>awdflash se6_sw.bin /cc/ cd/ /cp /py /sn /cks /r_
This looks scary! Besides all the steps in the 2nd URL that's
above!! Then what happens if I do something 'wrong' and it
Crashes? I would be one PO'ed Puppy.. ya know? :)
Now Eric, if you'd like to take a drive to New Jersey & help
I'd really appreciate THIS! Wow!..lol Sorry I couldnt resist!
With all the above I think I beeter wait...eh?
Thanx Eric & Cordially Thom_j.
Hate to say it, but BIOS updates are needed for alot more things than this
Sometimes just to fix a problem with a certain piece of hardware.. sometimes
to allow compatability with new CPUs and other things like to support newer
and bigger hard drives
Personally, I think every computer owner should know how to do a BIOS update
NASCAR4 1.3 patch problems with HTP370 RAID controllers
by Eric Busc » Tue, 23 Oct 2001 07:27:27
We're talking about two different things, there are BIOS updates and
there are driver updates.  Your motherboard has a BIOS, but the HTP370
RAID chipset also has a separate windows driver.  You can get the 1.0.3
driver from HighPoint.  Go to www.highpoint-tech.com, click the support
link, click Updated Drivers, click the Windows logo, click HTP370
chipset device updates, and then find the 1.0.3 driver update for your
OS.
Well Cliff, Your help of wisdom is 'appreciated' but the last
time a so called 'PC Expert' tried to "flash my mobo bios" I
had to buy a new one! So my computer was down for days
& for no real reason except stupidity on the "expert's" part!
Also as far as I know, an average PC user cant even format
a floppy besides a C: drive & I feel you are giving way' too
much credit to the daily average PC user!
Am I afraid? U betcha & as stated above it is certainly not
unfounded!! Cheers Thom_j.
NASCAR4 1.3 patch problems with HTP370 RAID controllers
by SimRace » Wed, 24 Oct 2001 02:55:32
Hey Thom J., Eric speaks the truth, ALT-DBL CLICK on my computer and bring
up your System Properties then go into Hardware tab, down near the bottom is
"System Devices", these are the drivers he is speaking of. I never really
thought about these until I installed an established HD into a new system
and Windows had to reboot several times as it found and installed "new"
drivers for AGP, USB, and the various chipsets insalled on the Mobo.
I haven't had to do a BIOS flash since I went to a larger HD than the old
BIOS supported, way back around DOS 6.22 (& WFW 3.11).
Anyone who uses an Abit (I have a KT7A RAID with the Highpoint controller in
question) should know about downloading and installing new mobo drivers as
they release their "4in1" drivers every other month or so to fix things
within the hardware and Windoze. Typically these fix their USB and AGP
implementation.
Best o' luck,
