Two Game Controllers?

Two Game Controllers?

Is it possible to have two seperate game controllers attached to one
computer.  I have a joystick attached to my sound card at the moment and was
wondering if it would be possible to add another controller (Wheel & Pedals)
to a USB port?  Would this cause conflicts?  I don't want the hassle of
manually changing connectors as I usually play GPL every day and every so
often have to have a quiet game of Quake or something to let my heart rate
come down!

I have exactly your situation and it works fine . Have Saiteck 2000 and CH
pedals in sound card and LWFF wheel/pedal connected to USB. You still have
to go into the game controller applet to change the desired controller to
the number 1 position so the game can read it but you won't have to mess
around with the cables.

Hello Chris,
Direct X 7.0 has some problems with multiple game controllers.  As you
can imagine, I have a LOT of game controllers at home and at work.  I
won't mention any brands, but they all have some problems with Direct
X 7.0.
In terms of force feedback, you can hook up more than one wheel to one
computer, but will only have force feedback effects on one of the
wheels.  The limitations stem from more the software then the
hardware.

how do you set the desired game controller to the number 1 position in the
control panel? it won't let me switch. when my joystick (gameport) is
deleted, the wheel (usb) still is set to number 2 (though my racing games
work fine). thx in advance.

I go to advanced tab of the game controller applet. Click on change and then
use the buttons to change the number. Hit ok which takes you back to the
advanced tab and repeat for the next one.You have to do it one at a time, as
far as I can tell.  BTW : when highlighting the controller to be moved in
the advanced panel highlght the number, not the name  or you'll get an error
message saying this device cannot be renamed. This is in Win98 and DX7a
here.

Hi John,
Thanks.  It's nice to feel appreciated.  :)  Thing is...we're all
gamers here, so it's fun for us to participate in these "chats."

Two Game Controllers?

by Ian Parke » Fri, 24 Dec 1999 04:00:00

I have a MSFF wheel (Gameport) and a Sidewinder Precision Pro joystick (USB)
both connected at the same time.
The wheel is in ID1 the joystick in ID2 and all my games work fine without
messing about with the ID's.
I use the wheel for GPL, Nascar3, Toca2, Driver and SCGT, and the stick for
GP500 MS Flightsim 98 and Combat flightsim, I just have to change the
sidewinder profiler settings for the wheel games. (BTW you can use all the
wheels and joysticks axis in GPL although there arent enough things to
control ;)

The MAIN thing to consider is that your gameport device be assigned ID-1.
USB devices can sit in any ID without conflict ... it's the gameport device
you have to worry about. Just make sure the gameport device is ID-1 and then
forget worrying about the USB devices.

Cheers,

Shumi

BTW... make sure you calibrate the USB wheel in the game :)

nope. doesn't work for me. i change the logitech wheel to id 1, click ok,
goes back to the previous screen, and the joystick gets reset to id 1 after
about 2 seconds. any other ideas?

Did you move the joystick out of slot 1 ( say to slot 3) first before you
tried to put the wheel into slot 1? If that isn't it then I'm fresh out of
ideas. Maybe you should just go with what you got since Ian Parker seems to
have no trouble getting the USB wheel to read when its in slot 2. Don't you
just love PC's and their "standardised architexture" ? :)
