Anyone have info on these racing sims???

Anyone fimiliar with Project Gotham Racing on the XBox?  Anyone know if we
might one day see it on the PC??  I've just seen the commercials on TV and
it looks friggin' killer!!!

How about Pro Race Driver from Codemasters.   Last I heard is was supposed
to be releashed summer '02.  But will it be on the PC.

Anyone got any new info on World Sports Car?

I'd love to know if there are any racing sims that take advantage of DirectX
8/Geforce 3.

Thanks,

Jeff

I've played Project Gotham on the Xbox on a couple of occasions.  It
is the best console racing game I've played, much better than Gran
Turismo A-Spec in my opinion, because the physics model feels very
real compared to that and other arcadey titles.  However I haven't
played a lot of console racing games besides GT and Project Gotham so
perhaps my opinion is not as well-formed as you'd like.

I guess it would be cool on a PC but I'm actually not very much into
those sorts of titles (prefer straight ahead sims like Nascar 4).

Project Gotham is a lot of fun if you like the Need for Speed style of
***.  I agree with radiospace, the physics are much better than I
would have expected, but it is still an arcade racer.  The tracks are
highly constricted street racing tracks and the emphasis is on racking
up points and slamming your opponents around.  There is also no***pit
view.  For a car nut it's a fun game just because of the sheer number
and variety of hot cars that are available, including some that weren't
even in production at the time the game shipped.  But a serious sim
racer would likely be turned off by the tracks, the lack of***pit
view, and the fact that the AI will take every opportunity to put you
into the guard rails.

Are we likely to see it on PC?  I doubt it.  The game is published by
Microsoft, which has a vested interest in making sure that it is
exclusively an Xbox game.

Relax, Dave...  I know WSC isn't vapourware :0)  As of a couple days ago,
it's "actually going really nicely at the moment."

I'll take your word for it. But the information stop is getting a bit
silly, IMO - what's it achieving? Even (yet) more screenshots would be
better than nothing.

I heard there was a view that was similar to a "bumper" or "hood"
view.  Is this the case?  I was looking into purchasing PGR, but I
want to make sure there is something at least along the lines of a
***pit view.

There is a bumper view, several chase views, and what I would call a HUD
view, i.e. normal driving view but with HUD graphics instead of a
***pit.  Each of these views also allows some adjustment in FOV.  No
hood view or***pit view.

Assuming it is like their Dreamcast title Metropolis Street Racer (and by all
accounts, it is), it'll have a bumper (too low) view and the usual view that
is essentially a***pit view, but no dash, instruments, etc.  Same as the
Gran Turismo series and virtually every console race title.

I'm not going to preach "no***pit = no sim".  But I will say that based on
playing through MSR, and what I've read about PGR, it is likely very arcadish.
That doesn't mean you won't like it.  But don't expect anything approaching a
sim.  MSR AI was horrid (super catchup AI capable of incredible accel and
speed, bumper-car racing...).  Physics are designed for handbrake sliding, not
real world driving/racing.  It isn't even close to NFS:Porsche Unleashed.
Still, once I gave it a realy try, I did enjoy MSR.

You're enjoying getting me all worked up, aren't you? ;-)

"Probably" - that's not a word I like to see. Still, as I said, I'll
take your word for it - but not for months and months. *If* the autumn
'02 date mentioned elsewhere is at least nearly true, I'll take back my
"vapourware" comment. But I ain't buying until there's a playable demo
- and not three weeks after release, please.

 Hehe :-)

By "probably", I mean the reasons for everything being like they are now will
"probably" be known to everyone after it's done..  It is being worked on right
now though, no 'probably' there :0)

I can't wait for the demo either :0)  I don't know anything about a definite
release date though :-(

There's just a typo there right now. :)

A small index.htm would have been nice, no matter how hard things are
under con(s)truction.

Good, I'd rather see them working on the sim than on the site!! ;-)
