I have the following:

creative labs tnt detonator drivers
bh6 mothergboard
128 mb ram
canopus voodoo 1
windows 98
When i play gpl with the tnt it locks after playing for a while. I have a
fan on the tnt chip and other games do not do this. I can cont-alt-del to
windows so it is not the cpu. When i try to reboot the game the visible
screen is real small on the monitor. I am using the gpl patch. The tnt is
much faster than the voodoo and a better image too. Does anyone have any
answers?

Yeah, get rid of the detonator drivers. Try the 0.48 Nvidia reference
drivers & see if that doesn't cure it. Also get rid of DX 6.1 if you have
that installed & go back to DX 6 - sadly the only way to do that reliably is
to reinstall Windows from scratch...

Yep.  DirectX 6 bought me 8fps.  6.1 took two back :(

Although it seems not to be the CPU, I would try to slightly increase the CPU
voltage anyway (by 0.05 or 0.1 V).
With my Celery on 450/2V I had just about the same problem (GPL locking after
some time, other software fine). Since I oc my Asus TNT, I thought that would
be the problem, but it wasn't. For GPL I had to up the CPU voltage to 2.1V to
get the problem to take a hike, for everything else 2.05V was sufficient.
I've now got it running at 467/2.2V (installed a fan in the side of the pc
cover that blows cool air directly onto the cpu, it now stays as cool as with
the cover off, maybe even cooler).
