I have made some finding that might be of help. I have GP2 for 3 weeks
now, used to race in ICR2/ICR1, never raced on GP1 though. A huge
difference between ICR2/GP2 in terms of WING adjustment is the way the
car react on front wing adjustment. As we all know increasing FRONT
WING angle will reduce understeer, and the reverse is true (oversteer).
The difference lies here:
GP2:
1- independly of REAR WING angle, if you increase FRONT WING angle,
the effect will be the amount of AIR going at the REAR will be
considerably reduced, thus the car will understeer less (from FRONT END
perspective) and at the same time you'll see a degradation of the BACK
REAR TIRES GRIP (more oversteer from BACK END perspective).
2-The amount of FRONT WING angle will have a LOW EFFECT on overall top
speed. What rules top speed is REAR WING ANGLE & CAR HEIGHT; If you
change the car height independly FRONT and REAR you can actually change
TOP SPEED (i mean change the ratio of FRONT HEIGHT compared to REAR
HEIGHT). The backdraw of doing this; you may destabalized the overall
respond of the car while in a curve (under/oversteer).
3-Conclusion: CHANGING WING ANGLE & RIDE HEIGHT (again independly F/R)
must be done with care, and best of all you can counteract the effect
of under/oversteer with these changings. Also try to keep the car as low
as possible (will increase speed in corners) and look at the PLANK wear.
ICR2:
1-In INDYCAR, changing either FRONT or REAR ANGLE will change TOP SPEED,
and if changing FRONT WING ANGLE without REAR WING won't change the
BACKEND response of the CAR as much F1 (at some limit this effect might
be more like F1 car specially on LONG OVAL; low wing angle F/R)
2- Concerning ride height, the only way to do it, is with SPRING
SETTING, but is it "simulated" ???
OVERALL CONCLUSION: Since i'm not an expert in aerodynamic, i'm
wondering if what i have stated (for GP2) is like this in real world
(F1) ?? The reason why i have some doubt is with the new F1 with HIGH
NOSE,(look at this year CARS & was started with Benneton in 92-93'),
i do believe of the aerodynamic involve, i think the FRONT WING angle
has less effect encountered with the velocity of AIR going at the back.
I might be wrong,i know that the overall car design has some effect.
Any input from anybody would be apreciated, and if you like this kind
of message, i would love to know.
