Race On-Line for $5000!!!

The idea, if taken seriously, would be to each, in part, re-imburse the
entrant's entry fee, Steve. That would mean relying on the entrant's honesty
when it comes to distributiing any prizemoney, but as they could have said
"you pays yer dollar, you takes yer chances". ;-)

Hi,

Im glad my post generated so many responses!

Its not a SPAM mailing at all - how else do you suppose to build awareness
of a new site?

Anyway, were not out to rip anyone off or anything like that, just to put up
a GOOD server with the opportunity for people to race for some gains,
instead of just points. I am a Sim racer. I am not a big multinational
company who can afford to give away Jeeps and pick-up trucks, so the prize
money HAS to come from the entry fees. The fees also help pay for the
servers, the connections to the internet backbone (I am not renting these
servers I OWN THEM!) and the admin thats involved with organising races of
this size and calibre.

At the moment we are in the process of getting the servers connected, then
we will start taking entry fees for the first round of the first
championship. All our fees can be paid via PayPal. Winnings will either be
paid via PayPal also or by direct wire to your account - your choice.

Why not join the mailing list for the newsletter, or pre-register for the
first championship? Its not commiting you to anything. We just get some
positive feedback from you guys.

Thanks for listening!!

Race On-Line for $5000!!!

Except of course it states that the prize money is based on the number of
entrants. The payout appears to be approx 70% of the entrance fee.

Leaving 30% to cover connection costs, administration and profit.

Personally I would be surprised if there were enough sim racers to sustain it.
Real racers pay to race at the back of the grid because to race at all they have
to pay for it. On-line there are plenty of alternatives. Those that feel they
could make money are unlikely to have enough average to poor drivers to bolster
the prize money fund. Only if the sim racing community was that big that 1000
drivers genuinely felt they had a shot at doing well enough to make some money
could it work. Of course there could be a 1000 out there but I would be
surprised.

You guys act like the enterance fee is $100. Its $10. lol. VRW is $25 for
the season, but that pretty much guarentees some of the best online racing
anywhere, PERIOD. Everyone used to get e***d when something serious was
going on whats the problem?

 Good Luck Simon.

As someone else said, there are some people who really don't have ANY chance to
win, so it would just be wasted money.  Whether it's $100 or $10, I don't like
throwing away money.

Race On-Line for $5000!!!

by Simon Oxberr » Tue, 16 Apr 2002 17:20:14

Thanks Charlie,

We tried to keep the entrance costs down as low as possible, which of course
means we need more entrants to get a decent prize fund structure. As for
guaranteeing good racing, well, thats up to the people on the track. We will
have a 'race official' at each heat so if anyone is intentionally wrecking
they can be ejected. Hopefully as the rounds progress, it will only be the
'better' / 'more deserving' drivers who get through.

We could change the format to a $50 or $60 entry up front to try and sift
out anyone who may not be totally serious, but I thought that might
discourage people from entering in the first place.

Why dont you give me some suggestions on how you'd like to see it run? I'd
appreciate your constructive comments!

My god, am I gonna be hearing about that when I'm 90?!?

And No, before you ask, that's NOT next year. It's at least a couple years
away...
