PDPI problem

by Jari Jokine » Wed, 21 Mar 2001 12:47:05

My RRC002 (4-axis, 4-button analog wheel/pedal system) has worked properly
with Diamond MX300 gameport for three months now. Yesterday I installed a
PDPI gamecard and 1.41 drivers. Now, when I steer to the left, the PDPI
thinks Button 1 is pressed. This happens in Windows calibration screen
(making calibration impossible) and in GPL with both generic and DirectX
driver. Other than that the PDPI works well with no spikes etc.

The PDPI is in address 0201 and the MX300 gameport is disabled. In the PDPI
"Driver file details" the provider of VJOYD.VXD and MMDEVLDR.VXD is
Microsoft. Is this normal?

My system:

Abit BH6
Voodoo3
MX300
Windows98
DirectX 8.0a

Is there tech support for PDPI anymore and are there newer drivers than
1.41?

Thanks for any help.

Jari,

It sounds like you have everything set correctly. I have a PDPI and an
SBLive but otherwise everything else you have stated is the same (except
that mine works properly).

As for the button press when steering, I had this happen a few months ago.
Turned out the wires leading to the button on the wheel had worn a bit and
would touch when the wheel was turned.

PDPI problem

I may have a mechanical problem with the RRC002, which just coincidentally
arised at the same time when I installed the PDPI: I did complete
uninstallation of PDPI and switched back to MX300, but that didn't help.
Actually, now Button1 is pressed all the time.

I mailed Nigel Nichols about my problem. While I am waiting his response,
would you mind trying what happens, if you disconnect the small adaptor
leading to the wheel buttons? In my case it made no difference (Button1 is
still pressed).

Thanks for your help and thanks for those who emailed me.

I thought USB took a serious framerate hit?

No actually USB is often a big improvement UNLESS you
are talking about the Microsoft FF wheel.  One of the
Nascar Heat programmers in another thread here gave a
pretty clear explanation as to why...

Indeed, it was a mechanical problem.

Oh, ok.  I don't have either USB or an MSFF  - I just thought I was warning
someone of possible problems...<shrug>
