He said a Fortissimo III, not a II - I've got a 3 as well, but haven't
had chance to try it with any racers yet....

Odd how that worked out...Usually an Atari stayed Atari.  We won't tell
anyone that Atari had first crack at the Amiga hardware and passed.

I had one of those and it kicked ass.  Currently running a Hercules
Fortissimo III 7.1 and it kicks ass as well.  I could never say a bad
thing about either Hercules or Turtle Beach.

But it's a creative card :)

My Live! experiences have removed them from my list for a long, long time.

My first sound card was a funky Music board for my TRS-80 Model 1 some 20
years ago :)

No GPL/WinXP issues here.

I think that's because they run the same chipset and basic reference
hardware :)

Good to hear. Which drivers are you using? And do you have sound
hardware acceleration set to "full"? And skid & shift sounds are fully
audible?

No sound card, here. :)
I use a set of Plantronics DSP-500 digital USB headphones. Less
hardware, less software and less drivers makes for a happier windows
user.

Not at the expense of performance.  Have you measured the cpu utilization
and fps hit?  I know the TBSC soundcard has just about the lowest cpu
utilization at 3-5% for most benchmarks, I wouldn't expect an external USB
sound device to be less.  Any idea?

Never took the time to do so.

Sorry,
