New GPL engine sounds

New GPL engine sounds

Downloaded and installed new engine sounds for the Lotus and Eagle from the
Apex (which says they got them from The Paddock).

Sounds create a repetitious buzzing/throbbing sound at high rpms and have
been rebalanced to lower the volume of the engine relative to the other
sounds.  I find it unrealistically low and prefer the default Papy levels.
The sounds themselves are interesting and I would like to try them at
regular volume, but can't be bothered unpacking and the next 20 steps to do
so...  Perhaps someone will release a set at the regular volume.  I can't
say they are so great or so much better than the default sounds, but....

The pack comes with a great (and humorous) installation and uninstallation
routine so that you can switch back and forth between the original sounds
and the new ones with ease.  Therefore, if you are even a bit interested,
check them out.  Looks like some day there will be some phenomenal sounds
for these cars given that these ones are out already!!

I went and checked The Paddock and you are correct.  Sorry, I thought these
were new and therefore represented news....I guess it was only news to me!
They do work fine in the full version and some people may like them however.

Thanks for the clarification.

Marc.

Don't know about every one else, but I personally hope someone comes up with
replacements for the stock 'murasama' and 'coventry' engine sounds, as these
seem to be the standard Nascar V8 type fill in sound that was with the demo!
Come to think of it, the Eagle and Repco sound like this as well (although
the Westlake sounds pitch shifted).
I want to hear the real scream of the Honda V12 at 10900 (or higher...:) )

I was looking at the Ferrari wav in my sound editor to get rid of the
looping glitch and I found that the level has been cranked up so high the
sample is actually distorted!!

No kidding!  Clipped to Hell.  the Lotus is the next worst.  The BRM isn't
clipped at all.  I filtered out the distortion noise, but the end result was
unsatisfactory.  Even distorted, they've captured the inherent resonance from
the exhaust plumbing nicely, which is what makes the Ferrari sound so good.

Still working on it,

Steve B.

Hmm...I am actually a long way into making a new V12, based on a 1966
Maserati.Check the paddock for updates in the future!
